What California Themes are Missing from DCA?

So as I was watching a video of Soarin I started thinking to myself that some of the locations shown in the film (Mammoth, Central Coast, San Diego, etc.) seemed to be there as an honorable mention to important aspects about California that didn't make the final cut when it came to theming.

With that in mind, I thought it would have been cool to see a Mammoth themed area with ski-lifts, a steel coaster ride, etc in DCA.

Just for fun what part of California would you like to see as a themed area in DCA and what would attractions,food, or shows would you put in it?

Not to be prejudiced or anything, but I think they should expand San Francisco
Also, I'd like to see a Lake Tahoe themed area, like a mountain ski resort.

But seriously, San Francisco doesn't even feel remotely like the real San Francisco. There's no homeless people, tourist traps, OR homeless people. Wait did I already mention that?

it's also lacking hills and slopes.

I agree with the mountain theme for either Mammoth or Tahoe. Some kind of e-ticket ride that has to do with skiing, with a mountain lodge style restaurant near by.

The truth is, these themes are missing only in their lack of presence in being accurate to themes around the state. Not missing in the sense that we would want them to be part of the park…

- Bums (not the funny kind, the kind that steel your stuff)

- Clip-board clad individuals petitioning to legalize marijuana

- Graffiti (non artistic, no “pieces”, just tags)

- High car registration rates

- Food service sector employees with horrible attitudes

- Non-English speaking custodial staff

- Traffic

- Prius’s with Gore, Kerry, or Obama campaign stickers

- Bubble Tea

- Severely overpriced public transportation

- Budget cuts

- Poorly funded parks

Yeesh, I didn’t intend for them all to be bad, but…

Mountains and Desert. Cars land looks to be doing a good job with a Desert theme (though its name needs to be changed)
and we do need a area Tahoe with a sky way ride:-)

One word: Borax.

From the late 19th century through the early 20th, California's borax industry powered the development of the desert and made millionaires of mild-mannered men. It created colorful characters, spawned legends of the West and made Ronald Reagan and Rosemary DeCamp the household names they are today.

Borax.

In industry and homes, it was and is crucial to California's fabled wealth and envied lifestyle.

To not include it as part of California's past is to ignore such a very large part of the gilded history of this, our Golden State.

I think that they should have a Mammoth/Tahoe themed area - Ski Resort Style. Although I do admit I am biased towards that because I live in Mammoth.

I'd be down for some kind of ski resort thingy, seeing as we have many in california (not that i have ever been or will ever go to any of them)

i'm biased too, but i could go for more san francisco. and even though the GRR area in the golden state area is fairly large, could anyone tell me if there is any redwood trees in it? I don't suppose the anaheim climate would support them; too dry me thinks. but redwoods and vineyards a huge part of the california i was raised in, and there's really NO forest like a forest full of redwoods. the quality of air and light, the smells, the feeling is just astounding, and probably impossible to replicate (yes, it drives me NUTS that the "redwood creek" shot in soarin' smells like FAKE PINE. Redwood forests smell nothing like pine.)

Actually, I think if you look hard enough, you could find nearly all of these in (or very near to) DCA...
if you change "petitioning to legalize marijuana" to "taking semi-useless surveys"
and "registration" to "parking"

One word: Borax.

I typed a long post and hit post. Unfortunately, the forum ate it. So I'll reiterate in short...

So much of the park is wasted space. Once it revamps into the new DCA, it'll be filled in somewhat better. Condor Flats does not need to become part of the Grizzly Peak/Nat'l Park area. But the Grizzy Peak area needs a new attraction. How about something similar to the Matterhorn? This time, you're outside a mountain and being chased by Bigfoot on a roller coaster. Just when you think you've outrun him, he appears again.

The vineyard area is a nice concept, but it's executed quite poorly in my opinion. It needs a good ride... something like a unique dark ride in the vein of POTC or HM. But completely original. Perhaps move out Bugs Land and replace it with this new ride.

San Francisco contributes nothing but scenery. It almost doesn't even belong in the park. It's nice on the eyes, but too small to really serve much purpose other than being a restroom. Maybe once TLM and new Paradise Pier is finished it'll blend in a bit better.

Hollywoodland (please, why not just call it Hollywood?) seems to be headed in the right direction. Let's just hope they fix some of those facades on Sunset Blvd.

Paradise Pier is Paradies Pier... we know where it's headed and that's fine.

Carsland has nothing to do with California, despite what some of the landscapes might look like. Strikeout on that one.

So I can't say what's needed in DCA... it's got several sublands, which can or can't be a good thing. I think they should work with those sublands and improve them, then consider adding once they've accomplished that. Other than that I can't think of any new lands the park really needs at this point.
