Re: Flagrant Theme Violation - Halloween Ghost Galaxy at Space Mountain!

if we can build attractions about ghosts today... why can't there be ghosts in the future?

Did we also give up holidays in the future too?

It's about a ghost GALAXY - not corn stalks and pumpkins.

Is this really the cross you want to die on?

Rockin Space Mountain made no sense but it was fun and I believe we got some new effects out of it when it was over.

Who's to say we won't run into ghosts in space?

Also, maybe in the future scientist will figure out how to communicate with ghosts.

At the very least, in the future there will still be people who like being scared and probably some haunted house space stations.

This is being transplanted from Hong Kong, isn't it? If it worked there, maybe it will work at DL.

I think ghosts in space sounds pretty cool. I wonder if it will be a faster overlay then the Haunted Mansion Holiday since it would mostly be just changing the audio, lightning and projections.

    seriously!~
hasn't it always been a well known argument that ghosts exist in space? i mean.. after all.. "heaven" has been portrayed to be a place where all go when they die. so if you look at it from all angles, it's perhaps one of the smartest holiday theme out of any. judging from what hong kong's looks like, it might be a decent temporary celebration change. people need to stop doubting things before they've even experienced them.

i think it'll be a nice temporary change as well.

from the looks of it, the stars/galaxies will form to resemble ghosts, rather than a bunch of ghosts and ridiculous decorations.

it'll be a nice distraction since i've ridden it numerous times.. to the point that i forget we're in "space" and just look at the stars shaped as stairs

It kind of annoys me how some Disney fans will criticize any new attraction that doesn't make exact sense but praise any attraction that Walt had a part in making even if it made no sense where it was placed.

Lincoln on Mainstreet?? time period violation!
Matterhorn in Tomorrowland? tobogganing in the future?
Matterhorn in Fantasyland?? Well... they got the setting right at least.
It's A Small World. in the land of Disney's fairy tale films?

When it comes down to it. I don't care(to an extent!), as long as the attraction is good.

Its Disneyland...made for fun, not to be the real world AT ALL. I think its going to be a great addition to the holidays and make me want to go on space mountain more than twice in the same day.

Despite what the name might have lead you to believe, the overlay doesn't consist of ghosts flying around and zombies popping out at you. There aren't ghosts in the galaxy, the galaxy is the ghost.

Well, actually, it doesn't look much like a ghost at all. It's more of a demon sort of thing, but Demon Galaxy doesn't have as much of a ring to it, does it?

The story (as I perceived it) goes like this:

You're about to take off on your trip through space (remember that Space Mountain is supposed to be an intergalactic airport), when a computer glitch takes you down the wrong tunnel, which has apparently been abandoned for years. As you climb up the lift (prepare for takeoff), an evil creature appears that seems to be made of space itself. He tells you that you have "disturbed my slumber, now you will pay!"

The rest of the ride consists of him chasing you through the darkest regions of space.

Actually, I'm looking forward to it. I'm hoping that this is the beginning of a future all-out Halloween look (and parade) for Disneyland (like they do at the other parks.) Worse case..it really doesn't work and people don't go see it and it goes away in a few weeks... best case..it is a fun TEMPORARY attraction and it opens up possibilities for more intensive Halloween themeing around the park. IMHO

    Theme schmeme.

You want serious theming--go to Williamsburg, or Gary, Indiana.
Disney should avoid the words "theme park." Do they even use it?
Magic Mountain is a theme park. Owwwwww!
Just make places and rides that are as cool as possible for me and my daughter now (she's 4) and when she's 10.

OK, I know Disney's parks are built on themes, but give Haunted Space Mountain a chance.

Just don't make a haunted Tiki Room.
A haunted Small World hosted by Chucky has real potential--especially if he chases that awful Woody doll throughout the attraction.

This is not correct. Tomorrowland is based on science and technology to give guests an OPTIMISTIC glimpse of the future. Tomorrowland stopped working once they removed the Mary Blair murals. Tomorrowland is not about the future. It is about giving people the hope that using today's and future technologies, we will have a bright and hopeful future for everyone.

That's probably my only problem with this overlay. It seems too dark to be in Tomorrowland. But it does have its plusses: First, it is a temporary overlay. With the majority of park guests especially in the season being locals they need something fresh to keep bring them back. And second, it is not themed to a specific movie or franchise. What a breath of fresh air as far as that is concerned. Even Rockin' Space Mountain removed you from fantasy by theming it to a real-life modern day rock band.
