Vinylmation Buying Process

I'll be visiting the parks next month for my birthday and am wondering what the whole purchasing process is like with these things.

I understand that you don't necessarily get to choose the one you want and that it's always a mystery until you purchase and open the package.

So my question is, how do I go about buying this mystery item with my Birthday Fun pass? Do I just inform the cashier that I want a 9" vinylmation and she'll just pick one at random for me, or is it more complex than just that?

I would really like comments from those who have actually purchased this item and can tell me the detailed process of buying these mystery items.

I would also like a confirmation that I can use the fun pass on these.

Re: Vinylmation Buying Process

The vinylmation figures come in two sizes, 3¨ and 9¨. The 9¨ figures are visible in their boxes with a see thru front face so you know which one your getting while the 3¨ figures are the ones that you will have no clue what your getting until you open the figure.

Typically you dont need to ask a CM to get you a box (but it is possible that certain shops might be different) I tend to go to Off the Page in DCA and the only figure a CM actually had to go into the backroom and get for me was the 3¨ blank figure. But the other figures are there for your choosing (9¨) or for you wild guess picking of your own (3¨).

Re: Vinylmation Buying Process

Just go in and buy them off a shelf. They are displayed in cases of 24. CMs can't look for specific designs (they are sealed inside boxes). Nor are cases supposed to be replenished before they are almost totally empty.
Furthermore, CMs and Disney are wise to where the special figure is in a case, and mix them up before bringing them out. The only way to be sure is to inquire whether you can buy a whole case (most stores should say yes, provided they have them in stock) and they should bring it out, still with the shrinkwrap on it for a guarantee. This will run about ~$250 though.

So basically the 9" vinylmations are free to pick from? This is good news, as those are probably the only ones I'd want to invest in.

And yes you can use the Fun Card on ANY merchandise, the only thing you can't buy is food.

Haha yes of course. I could imagine some people would try to get $70 worth of churros with the fun pass.

Yup. The 9¨ ones are visible in the packaging so you know what you're getting. I like the designs on the 3¨ figures better but I can see myself picking up a couple 9¨ blanks and painting them myself!

Well, you could I think buy a pack of food like a box of candy, because it's more like a souvenir. Of course you can't use it at restaurants or food stands. But it's possible it might even work in a shop like the candy store on pre-packaged food or treats. I asked about it once, but haven't heard of anyone trying it yet. (I suppose I could as I still have some $ on my birthday card)
