Gearhard's 7/25 Trip Report! Now with more Monte Cristo!

    Hey folks,

As some may know from my other thread, I have been hitting DLR the last few weekends in a row (solo the previous times). I went again today, the 25th, so I thought I would do another Trip Report with some of the better pics that came out from this outing. Gonna try to keep it short, so enjoy!

    July 25th:

Was able to make some good time getting down to DLR, so I was able to get into Disneyland around 9:30am. Shockingly, the wait times were the worst I have seen in these 4 weekends I have been going. The other three past weekends I went, most of the big rides only had like 25-30 minute before 11am. This time though, most the big ones were already at 45 minute lines and were close to a hour long before 11am.

I was planning on meeting friends a little later on in the morning, so after searching around the park a bit, I realized that even though the line times were sort of bad, no one was using the Fast Passes and that all the time for the big rides were like a hour after you could get the pass. So after taking some pics, seeing some cute little ducklings and scoring a FP for Splash Mountain, I met up with some friends at 10:30am and we did breakfist first and then hit up the Haunted Mansion and Pirates.

Both lines were short of course with each one only being 5 minutes at most. After that we scored some FPs for Indy, we went over to the Thunder Ranch for a few to get some photos with Chip and Dale and play with the pigmy goats. One interesting thing at the Ranch was that they had a full grown goat in there this time and the sucker was massive. Friendly, but really big. You can really see why the other goats were called "pigmy", since the regular goat looked like a Hummer compared to the little Vespa pigmy goats.

After some goat petting, we then decided to hit DCA for a bit because DL was becoming packed very quickly. Once again I was a bit surprised since the lines at DCA were also pretty bad with most the wait times double of what they were at the same time during the previous Saturdays I have gone.

Noticing that Soarin was a 50 minute wait and Rapids was only 30 mins, we grabbed FPs for Soarin and went to hit Rapids. Rapids was fun just because my one friend hates getting weat and looked like a pissed off wet cat after we got off the ride. We walked around DCA for a bit, got some pizza, and pretty much checked out all the smoking areas cause both friends are smokers.

Since my friends had to leave early to head hom to feed one of their dogs, we ended up heading back to DL for a quick and easy Indy ride, at least thats what I thought at first. Apparently my one friend didn't realize that when she got her FP as well as my other friends FP, both were invalid because they had gotten a FPs for Space Mountain before meeting with me in the morning. So we had no idea what to do and the Indy line was 50 mins long. Luckily we say a CM with single rider tickets and we scored three. We went through the exit all the way to the main passanger loading chamber without ever stopping really. So a 50 minute wait was 5 minutes for us thankfully. They never even collected out single rider tickets, which I have on my desk now.

So we did Indy really fast and since we had the FPs for Soarin that were almost ready to start, we decided to get some food really fast. Since I haven't been there in years and everyone swears by the Monte Cristo, we hit up New Orleans Cafe. I got the MC and was crying tears of joy due to how good it was. Definitely one of the top 5 sandwiches I have ever had.

So after pigging out, we ran back over to DCA. At this time, it was now around 5pm and DL was "sardine", typed packed and DCA was pretty busy as well. After doing Soarin, my friends had to leave which left me to my own vices for a bit. Of course I had to hit Tower of Terror first which had a 25 minute wait. I got stuck in a cabin with a bunch of new people to the ride and I scared the teens next to me by saying "I may throw up on you". The look of fear in their faces made me nearly pass out laughing. I told them I was just joking, but everyone else around me really thought I was serious.

After some Terror, I went back to DL for a quick ride on Splash since I still had my FP from the morning. Man, it was awesome. Splash had a 70 minute wait by this point, which it was now 6:30, and I ended up only having to wait 10 minutes cause of the FP. Good times I tell you.

My now soaked self dediced to get one more Terror ride in since I had gotten a FP for it right before I rode it the first time. So I hit DCA once again for another Terror ride through which is always fun.

After that, it was now close to 8pm and I thought it was time to head home. So I grabbed a tram and headed off into the sunset feeling beat as a horse, but had another great day at DLR!

And of course, here are the better photos from todays misadventures.

Yeah, it was the first time I ever had a Monte Cristo and man was it good. I have had its cousin before which is the same sandwich, but instead of deep fried, its covered in cheese and then pan fried. Have to admit, wasn't sure if I was going to dig it or not, but man it was tasty. Not exactly sure whats in the extra side sauce, but it tasted almost like grape jelley. Good stuff!

Speaking of which, it really seems like the amount of people going to DLR right now is beginning to ramp up since summer is quickly coming to a end. With the blackout days and other summer events ending soon, I have a feeling August is going to be a really busy month for DLR. So if anyone plans on going around that time, I would say just make sure to get their early and really use the Fast Pass system because once 11am rolls around, people are just pouring into both parks.

Great TR! But then again, if it has a Monte Cristo, it's automatically a great TR.

I have yet to try the Monte Cristo sandwich. Infact I don't even know exactly what it is, but I can only dream of how delicious it is!

Great trip report! I love the picture of Donald! How spot on and beautifully framed with no background distractions (ie. parade lighting polls which always ruin my hub pictures)

Well a Monte Cristo is basically a ham, turkey and cheese sandwich usually on white bread that is dipped into normal frying batter and then deep fried. Once taken out, its usually sprinkled with powdered sugar and served with some fruit and some sort of dipping sauce which can range from homemade jelly or maple syrup or mustard or cream. Really depends on where you get it. The one at Cafe Orleans comes with something that tastes close to grape jelly I would say.

It feels like desert mixed with dinner in a way. Sort of like tempura you might say. Definitely worth a try when you are at Disneyland. Both the Blue Bayou and Cafe Orleans serve it. For vegitarians, they also serve a three chese version without the ham and turkey.

I never really know what to say in a trip report (some people just post pics, others give info and most seem to post how things went), so glad people are enjoying it. I am not much of a camera man, but I did like the way the Donald one turned out. Gonna try to get the other statues next time I am at DL in the next week or so.
