Toy Story. If you count books as merchandise then Harry Potter blows them away

Can someone tell me why Harry Potter is going in a Universal Park? I thought it was Warner Bros.

Because I believe Universal were the ones who bought the rights to use harry potter in their theme parks.

There is a difference between a fanbase and merchandise sales.

Fan base: Waits for movies at midnight, reads the books, waits for the books at midnight, has many strong fan based websites, conventions, ect.

Merchandise Sales: "Won't that look cute in little johnny's room?"

I'm going to be looking forward to both, but I have to say, being the nerd that I am, I'm more excited for the WWoHP.

just two seconds of thinking off the top of my head, to be honest I'm not too excited about carsland. I am excited about the Harry Potter theme, I'm not even into the movies that much haven't read the books but I think it's a cool idea and it will work very well as a theme park attraction. Cars...eh, it was a good movie not great I guess it fits into the theming of DCA.
    Star Wars Defintely.

Star Trek< well tell me this, before the film came out this year, did you see any toys in the Toy store. No.

Is there Lord of the Rings Merch at Wal mart. Nope

Batman and Spider_man have merchandise, but not based off the films. Without Film support they go away until the next film. There can be comic based figures for those.

My point is that if you look you still find Cars toys, bed spreads, book bags, and all of that and it has been years since a Cars film.

Cars is VERY popular and probably one of the most profitable brands Disney has.

Also same reason why Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and the Muppets are in a Disney theme park.

I don't actually mind an attraction being based on this movie. Radiator Springs Racers looks like it will be a fun ride in the vein of Test Track. By all means, the park needs more E-tickets.

However, building an entire land based on the pretense of Cars is grade A foolishness. Successful merchandising or no, it's one of Pixar's least successful ventures (Both commercially and critically).

This is not some lasting classic. And when the suits at Disney realize this they'll be stuck with not just one attraction, but an entire section of the park celebrating a decade-old flash in the pan. I don't think Universal will be having the same problem with Harry Potter.

It's better than Finding Nemo land. At least Cars relates to California (route 66) a lot better than any other Pixar movie. I don't see what else they could put in there.

I think Cars wasnt that unsuccesful and it fits the route 66 appeal for DCA i think people are critical of the land because of the name of the land. I think Radiator Springs or something that would draw less attention to the Cars aspect and more to the Route 66 portions and love of automobiles.
