When Michael Eisner came in, he brought in a lot of celebrity power from other studios into the Disney fold. That started the whole collaboration between George Lucas and Disney.

Early Years (With Frank Wells & Jeffrey Katzenberg)
    Star Tours
    CAPTAIN EO
    Splash Mountain
    Toon Town
    Toon Town Trolley
    Roger Rabbit ride
    Fantasmic!

Later Years (By himself, and with Ovitz and later Iger)
    DCA
    Tomorrowland: Imagination AND BEYOND!
    Buzz Lightyear's Chucky Cheese spin
    Neutered Submarine Voyage
Destroyed the Disney Parks business model and turned it into a "only care about the bottomline" business instead of an enterprise focused on quality and high guest satisfaction (which would bring in even more profits) (To be fair Paul Pressler/Cynthia Harris/Jay Rasolu had a big role in this as well)

    Yeah, speaking of Pressler...

Eisner made the baffling decision of appointing, as President of Disneyland, a guy who had never set foot in the park before!! (which he proudly and cluelessly bragged to an astonished press corps)

    Re: Michael Eisner.

Eisner is known for bringing a lot of great things to Disney before he took the helm and all hell froze over. That's why people thought he should have the top job in the first place (well, there was no way to see it coming I guess. It wasn't just his stuff going downhill, it was more like a major 180 judging by how well his early years went).

Wasn't disneyland almost bankrupt once until Eisner built DCA, which saved Disney?

I thought the care given to the parks leading up to the huge 50th anniversary was what saved it...
Combined with masses of Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom fangirls making pilgrimages to ride POTC...

The Disney Company itself would have been broken up and sold off. Bringing Eisner in was part of a deal that Roy Disney made to save the company, and the immediate performance and turn around that Eisner engineered did in fact save the company and put it in the position it is in today.

So yes, Eisner did save Disney.

A lot of people seem to forget the state of the Disney company before Eisner took over. He did a lot of good for the Disney and the parks.

That is true. If it wasn't for Eisner Disneyland could have been sold and turned in condos and strip malls.

Thanks to Eisner that never happened, except maybe for the strip mall part.

    Re: Michael Eisner.

Too bad he turned into a money hungry greedhead after Wells died, gleefuly looting the company and trashing its legacy and reputation to squeeze out every last dime and goose the stock price. That's why he got squeezed out.
