Disneyland's closed for all of 2011. See you in 2012. Snow White is now a water ride, Matterhorn has a fullsize basketball court where the Clippers have relocated to, and King Arthur's Carousel is suspended 250ft. in the air.
Omg...I never saw it in person and was curious so I looked it up on Youtube...I was horrified! Who's idea was that?!? Luminaria was horrible! I couldn't believe that Disney ever thought it was a good idea. It was such an embarrassment!!
Luminaria had some really nice effects and a beautiful soundtrack, but when it came to the fireworks it did have some flaws. Instead of trying to fix them they never brought the show back, which is a shame since it really was a nice little show. Steven Davison recently mentioned that the show could possible make a return using the new WoC equipment.
The glowing candle effect, the christmas tree, the decorated gift boxes for the pyro, and the kid's x-mas drawings were all very nice touches. Calling it an embarrassment is going way overboard.
i would agree. like someone commented on the youtube video page, while the show wasn't executed very well, the message behind it was still great and had a lot of potential..
it definitely had a lot of potential. they could have reworked the pyro and done some tweaking here and there, but they never bothered to and pretty much let the show disappear like nothing ever happened. instead they let the PP lagoon sit empty for all those years.. at least now WoC will definitely make up for it.
for those who have seen the castle lighting show at DL during the holidays - portions of the Luminaria soundtrack were reused for that. i'm glad that at least a part of the show still lives on
This show was vary short lived. I remember reading a review of it in the local paper and a weeks later the show was gone. It did have a few touching moments and vary inventive use of pyro but it all came down to safety, too much smoke too close to the viewing area.
