Re: Obscure Disneyland Questions??

If hostiles took over DLR, I would disguise myself as a hostile! That way, there would be no need to hide and I could still be myself.

Re: Obscure Disneyland Questions??

Good responses to the questions fair chatters, very much appreciated! I may have a couple more for you and mind the fact that they may get more detailed as I get closer to my next Disneyland visit, which will take place 23 days from tomorrow. I would like to make it known that if any of you need a question answered and do not want the answer to come from a copy and paste Wikipedia search, ask Z-Ticket. He has bee most helpful and it’s right off the top of his head!

Tomorrowland is supposed to reflect the future, progress, things like that. Why then, are we always wanting to bring old attractions back? I feel like if we want to bring back Captain EO or the People Mover, maybe we can put it in Frontierland?

How often does Disneyland resurface the walkways?

Walt loved bears so much he created a show full of robotic ones with happy, sad and funny faces singing classic but original songs. Is anyone else saddened by the lack of bear-presence in the park these days?

Walt and Michael Eisner, one on one at the b-ball court in the top of the Matterhorn, who wins?

Would the brilliant steam engines that circle the park have to be retrofitted to be placed onto the same rails that commercial trains travel in the USA? What I am saying is, can you put the Lilly Belle on the UP tracks and take a trip to Kentucky without heavy modifications?

A Disneyland conductor hat was for sale on E-bay a while back for $900.00, did anyone on MiceChat buy it? If so, pose in a picture!

Does the pirate in POTC that sits on the bridge overhead swinging the bottle ever get drips on you? I swear it’s happened to me!

why would we put captain EO or the peoplemover in frontierland? ( just asking in case you were seirous

and i think theres a pretty good bear presence in disneyland. we have bear in splash mountain, winnie the pooh, and bears in the grand canyon diorama. ALSO lets not forget the grizzly river rapids in dca.

The trains of the Disneyland Railroad operate on tracks with rails that are exactly 3 feet apart. This is called "narrow gauge," with "gauge" just being a funny term for the distance between the rails.

Large "main line" railroads, like the Union Pacific you refer to, have rails that are "standard gauge," with rails that are exactly 4 feet, 8.5 inches apart (Yeah, I know, sort of a random measurement).

So, no, the Disneyland trains could not run on standard gauge railroads.

However, there are still several narrow gauge railroads in operation in the United States, from the Durango & Silverton in Colorado, to the Cumbres & Toltec in New Mexico to the Tweetsie here in North Carolina. Several other amusement parks also run 3-foot narrow gauge trains, including WDW, Disneyland Paris, Knott's Berry Farm and Cedar Point.

In fact, there was talk a few years ago of hauling a Disneyland locomotive up to Bob Rossi's ranch in San Luis Obispo, where he has laid several miles of narrow gauge track. He also owns the four original passenger coaches of the Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad (the Lilly Belle is a remnant of this train). Maybe one day, we'll see a Disneyland engine hauling the cars she originally hauled in 1955!

Concievably, the Disneyland trains could be packed up and operated on any of these railroads. In fact, one locomotive in private hands, the Eureka, frequently operates on other railroads (the owner calls it his "recreational vehicle!").

Here's the engine on one if its Colorado sojourns, from the Durango & Silverton Museum:

Substituting the C.K. Holliday for this locomotive is well within the realm of possibility!

Conversely, there was one time a "foreign" train operated at Disneyland!

Several years ago, A young whipper snapper named John Lasseter bought animator Ollie Johnston's personal steam locomotive, named for Johnston's Wife, the Marie E. Lasseter restored the locomotive to operating condition. Then, quietly, he had the engine and its caboose trucked to Disneyland and set up on the tracks.

Disneyland then invited Johnston to a "special recognition" ceremony in his honor, to be held before operating hours at Frontierland Station. While Ollie sat there listening to the speechifying, a familiar whistle could be heard off through the tunnel to the left. There were tears in Ollie's eyes as the restored Marie E. came steaming into the station! An emotional but overjoyed Ollie was assisted into the locomoive cab, and he enjoyed two trips around the Magic Kingdom aboard his old locomotive!

I didn't see that one, but conductor hats do occasionally show up. I paid much less for mine many years ago.

Also, a few years ago a group of Disney train fans contacted the hat manufacturer and put in a special order. Obtaining the badge is the hard part (although there is on on Ebay now). Those hats may still be floating around as well.

Re: Obscure Disneyland Questions??

I think my question may have been structured incorrectly regarding the Tomorrowland rides. What I am trying to say is, how is it a land of tomorrow when we keep on wanting old rides to return? I enjoyed the clunker-ing People Mover as much as the next guy, but feel like the track could be better utilized with a fresh, new attraction.

Same goes with Captain E-O. Yes the death of Michael was tragic, but almost presumed based on his lifestyle. Disney, to maintain a strong moral and ethical reputation, removed Michael Jackson's presence from their parks, why bring it back now? It is not like in these last moments evidence was found that truly acquitted him of all charges. We still don't know, and probably never will. There's video footage on YouTube of Captain E-O, let's stick to that.

So I mentioned Frontierland as a good place for this stuff because Frontierland bestows a presence of days of old. It was simply an opinion that these attractions are out dated and don't have a place in Tomorrowland.

Steve, your knowledge of trains blows me away! Funny you should mention those trains and their lines in CO. I was in Silverthorne, CO a month or so ago and saw some live mining towns. While the gold and silver may not be crumbling out of the mountains, the covered shaft entrances, mills, and the towns that were created because of them were real. A Main Street, a few dozen homes and a small white church. Pretty unreal that this kind of thing still exists and isn't a tourist attraction.

[QUOTE=BoygunaSurf;1055489471]Tomorrowland is supposed to reflect the future, progress, things like that. Why then, are we always wanting to bring old attractions back? I feel like if we want to bring back Captain EO or the People Mover, maybe we can put it in Frontierland?
Good question! The truth is- Tomorrowland is very futuristic right now. Bringing the PeopleMover back might actually make it look somewhat futuristic. If they bought the People Mover back I also assume that they will be making some changes with new technology to make it seem more futuristic. As for Captain EO, I have no clue. It would just be a limited run for Halloween

How often does Disneyland resurface the walkways?
Hmmm. I tried looking it up, but I couldn't find anything. I'm really not sure. That's an interesting question though, hopefully someone will give us the answer

Is anyone else saddened by the lack of bear-presence in the park these days?
I can't remember the show being there, but I saw it at WDW and it was really cute! My older sister and parents do miss the Country Bears though.

Walt and Michael Eisner, one on one at the b-ball court in the top of the Matterhorn, who wins?
Haha! Oh goodness. I think it would just depend. I think either of them could win

What I am saying is, can you put the Lilly Belle on the UP tracks and take a trip to Kentucky without heavy modifications?
I thought maybe, but then I read everything Steve said and I decided to believe him. He's a smart man!

A Disneyland conductor hat was for sale on E-bay a while back for $900.00, did anyone on MiceChat buy it? If so, pose in a picture!
Wow. I don't think anyone on MiceChat got it, but you could look through the forums on the Collectibles forum for possibly another hat.

Does the pirate in POTC that sits on the bridge overhead swinging the bottle ever get drips on you? I swear it’s happened to me!
Yes, your not imagining it. I swear I have felt it too!

Keep the questions coming! I love this thread!

You can be excused from thinking that the trains could ride on Standard Gauge tracks.

In fact, this was exactly what Walt Disney and Ward Kimball wanted you to think!

When they started about creating the first two trains (The C.K. Holliday and the E.P. Ripley), the designers concsiously tried to create the illusion that they were full size trains, by toying with the relative proportions of the trains, track, cars and structures. What they ended up with are actually 5/8th scale "model" trains that appear to be "full size." It's a trick of the eye that only magicians such as Walt and his crew could pull off!

Re: Obscure Disneyland Questions??

I have some more questions about the park, thanks again for all your help!

Does Disney have a “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy?

Do the Dumbo elephants rise higher in the sky than the rockets on the Astro Orbiter, or are they exactly the same?

If they bring back Captain EO, will Michael Jackson’s character be black or white?

Captain Rex (from the cockpit) and Tom Morrow from Innoventions meet for the first time, would they get along?

What is the name of the woman on the video spiel prior to boarding the Star tours Star Speeders with that side-bun hairstyle? Has she done any similar work with Disney on other video monitors?

Bruce Healey wrote the Fantasmic! score and has done some other small projects with Disney. I have heard that he also wrote the “original composition” performed by Renaldo Lapuz on American Idol “We are Brothers Forever”. Any truth to this?

What is the square footage of the Haunted Mansion? Data, your assistance please!

How long do the rifles stay charged in the shooting gallery after that 25-cent piece goes into the slot?

I’m embarrassed about this one: do the lookout towers in Frontierland that over look Tom Sawyer’s Island (PC) still have those guns in them for shooting the marmots?

Are guide dogs allowed in the park, and has anyone ever seen one?

Oscar, older gentleman, distinguished, cooks the food at the Carnation Café. Carnation Café, great restaurant, or greatest restaurant ever?

GOOD QUESTION. can't you refill your cup of coffee for free at the blue ribbon bakery or something? i think someone told me that...???

Do the Dumbo elephants rise higher in the sky than the rockets on the Astro Orbiter, or are they exactly the same?
never thought about it..hmm

If they bring back Captain EO, will Michael Jackson’s character be black or white?

Captain Rex (from the cockpit) and Tom Morrow from Innoventions meet for the first time, would they get along?
No, Tom Morrow keeps inventing new gadgets and Captain Rex still can't drive star tours after all this time! i think tom would start getting annoyed.

What is the name of the woman on the video spiel prior to boarding the Star tours Star Speeders with that side-bun hairstyle? Has she done any similar work with Disney on other video monitors?
don't know

Data must know.

How long do the rifles stay charged in the shooting gallery after that 25-cent piece goes into the slot?
don't know, but is it a time limit or certain number of shots? i think you get a certain amount of shots...?

I’m embarrassed about this one: do the lookout towers in Frontierland that over look Tom Sawyer’s Island (PC) still have those guns in them for shooting the marmots?
don't know

Are guide dogs allowed in the park, and has anyone ever seen one?
yes they are, and yes i see them here and there at the park.

Oscar, older gentleman, distinguished, cooks the food at the Carnation Café. Carnation Café, great restaurant, or greatest restaurant ever?
ya, Oscar is great. but just great breakfast restaurant for me. i love breakfast there, but i'm not usually a sandwich/salad/soup person so i think i've only had lunch there like once.

Smile Re: Obscure Disneyland Questions??

Probably. They probably have different policies for different things

Do the Dumbo elephants rise higher in the sky than the rockets on the Astro Orbiter, or are they exactly the same?
I tried looking this up. All I found out was that the WDW Astro Orbitor does go higher than the WDW Dumbo. I have no clue if it's the same for DL

If they bring back Captain EO, will Michael Jackson’s character be black or white?
You evil man! hahaha. Well, I think it will be the same as when it left

Captain Rex (from the cockpit) and Tom Morrow from Innoventions meet for the first time, would they get along?
I guess it depends...

What is the name of the woman on the video spiel prior to boarding the Star tours Star Speeders with that side-bun hairstyle? Has she done any similar work with Disney on other video monitors?
Jenifer Lewis. I believe she has been in some Disney movies. She's going to be in the new Disney movie The Princess and the Frog and is going to voice Mama Odie. She also voiced Flo in Cars
Bruce Healey wrote the Fantasmic! score and has done some other small projects with Disney. I have heard that he also wrote the “original composition” performed by Renaldo Lapuz on American Idol “We are Brothers Forever”. Any truth to this?
I don't think so. Just looked it up and couldn't find anything about it on tons and tons of websites.

What is the square footage of the Haunted Mansion? Data, your assistance please!
At first I was really confused by the question then I realized you were asking about the size. Haha. Are you wondering about the Mansion or the show building?

How long do the rifles stay charged in the shooting gallery after that 25-cent piece goes into the slot?
I don't think it charges, but I think there is a certain number of shots you can fire

I’m embarrassed about this one: do the lookout towers in Frontierland that over look Tom Sawyer’s Island (PC) still have those guns in them for shooting the marmots?
I don't think so. I think they removed them after the little girl's finger got stuck and fell off because of them. I think I'm thinking of the right thing...yeah, I think they were removed

Are guide dogs allowed in the park, and has anyone ever seen one?
Yes sir! I've seen one a few times. I even once saw a dog in line for Matterhorn and he was a guide dog in training. The lady was standing in front of us and we were talking to her. She said they agencies encourage bringing the guide dogs in training to busy places so they are use to that kind of stuff. Of course, someone waited at the exit of the Matterhorn when it was the lady's turn to ride. Also, I think it's illegal for Disneyland to turn people down if they have a guide dog.

Oscar, older gentleman, distinguished, cooks the food at the Carnation Café. Carnation Café, great restaurant, or greatest restaurant ever?
Oh my God! I know him! We eat there almost every time we go to Disneyland (once or twice a month) and my mom and I always order the potato soup and he always recognized us and finally gave us the recipe! He is sooo sweet and has been working there for a very long time. Very awesome guy. Greatest restaurant ever!!
