    Question Space Ramp?

This is my first post here, and while it's on the nerdy side, I've just gotta ask:
What happened to that up ramp on Space Mountain? I've seen it in pictures and heard about it, but why did they remove it? Was it taking up queue space for Honey I shrunk the Audience? Did they need the room for the Fastpass Stations? Did they want that fountain thingamajigger? Did Michael Eisner just hate escalators? Any info would be great. Thanks!

Although I cannot answer your question directly, I am sure there will be someone here that can answer your question.

    Re: Space Ramp?

The speedramp to Space Mountain survived the Magic Eye theater and Captain EO. It did not survive the horrid Tomorrowland '97 makeover. The giant Marble now sits where the speedramp was.

You can pretty much blame the invention of Fastpass for it's removal.

Wow, that's really cool! If it was there til 97 i must have seen it, i was just really little and dont remember So was it like part of the line, or did it pretty much just take you to the area to form the line, like what we do now, but now we take a longer version in a weird secret tunnel?

Oh, wow. I completely forgot about the ramp. I didn't start getting my AP until 2004, and maybe went to Disneyland a few times, every other year before that. So my memory is a little wee waw.

    Thanks for the photos!

Did the speed ramp jut out far enough to invade the space of Cosmic Waves?

Welcome to MiceChat. I hope you will post frequently and make yourself know

That ramp looks completely awesome! It looks Tomorrowland-ish if you ask me! It makes it look more futuristic in my opinion. I've seen it before but am way too young to remember it being there. It's cool though

I'm not too crazy about the way the ramp looks. To me, it detracts the view from the actual Space Mountain building... but that's just my opinion. It is yet another Disneyland wonder that I never got to see.

    Re: Space Ramp?

Too bad they changed things. That whole thing was just a bad call. It really is just another example of why the '97 redo was so bad. They took out the ramp and pretty much hid the entrance to the ride deep in the back. And what was the point of replacing an attraction (Mission to Mars) with a restaurant when there was already a restaurant about 20 feet away that they just closed down? The Space Place was where the entrance to Space Mountain is now. They could have changed the Space Place to the Pizza Port theme, turn Mission to Mars into an actual attraction, avoided the Cosmic Waves mess and left the 'in the wide open grand entrance' to Space Mountain.
