The return of America Sings

Here's something fun. If America Sings were to be brough back.. What changes would you make? What songs or eras would you add? What songs would you remove?

For Example:

There should be a period for the late 1700s to the early 1800's.

For the scenes from the south add in some Civil War Tunes like
Goober Peas
The Battle Cry of Freedom
Marching Through Georgia
The Battle Hymn of The Republic
Lorena

For the Old West:
Streets of Laredo
Oh Susannah
Darlin Clementine
Git Along Little Doggies
Yellow Rose of Texas

1890's to 1920's:
Anything by George M Cohen
Stars and Stripes Forever
Over There
Into the Wild Blue Yonder
Let's Misbehave

1930's to 1940's:
Your Cheatin Heart
Dixieland Jazz
Some Disney Music (of course)
The Entertainer
Boogy Woogie Bugle Boy
In The Mood
Chattanooga Choo Choo
Anything Goes
Puttin” On the Ritz

1950's to present
Honky Tonk Girl
I Fall To Pieces
Rock around the Clock
Peggy Sue
La Bamba
Surfin Safari
Elvis
Any Motown
Great Balls of Fire
Take Another Little Piece of My Heart Baby
Purple Haze
Disco Inferno
Blondie
early Ramones music
Mommas Dont Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys
Born In The USA
Any John Cougar Melencamp song
Beat It
Madonna
Van Halen
Walk This Way (rap version)
etc.

Re: The return of America Sings

Anything but Britney Spears, et al for the 'Modern Era.' No offense, but who wants a senario where the music is dated and forgotten in 10-20 years. Food Rocks, anyone?

The Gershwins, Cole Porter and Rogers/Hart/Hammerstein would be nice for the early to Mid-20th. I like the idea of the Ramones (Blitzkreig Bop!), as well as the Beatles, Stones and perhaps a little Nirvana (probably too controversial, though).

Can't do Beatles and Stones. While they did contribue and influence american music, they were british. Nirvana would definatly have to be in there.

I think it would be interesting to see the characters sing to Gilligans Island, Happy Days and dance to Hawaii 5-0, & Dallas.

Beatles and Stones in America Sings?

How about Elvis and Frank Sinatra instead?

Oh phooey! I thought this thread was going to say that they really are coming back! You big tease!! LOL

I'd want to hear lots of 80's music. That was a great era!

Talking Re: The return of America Sings

If we include Nirvana and the like, would we also need to include a Tipper Gore animatronic taping the performers mouths shut with parental advisory sitckers? Just wondering.... LOL
