    DLR Water Park

In another thread I was mentioning why NOT have another park in DLR. Then it hit me: What would I put in if I was to design a DLR Water park like the ones in Florida? Yeah DLR has water rides but what would be appropriate in a DLR water park?

One thing I would make, the first really, would be a lazy creek around a berm that would be themed to various wetland biomes in CA. Meaning that part of it would look forested and part would look coastal, like traveling along the California Current and seeing buildings reflect the coastal cities. MAybe even have sections where you're leisurely floating through aquariums of animals (or their AA clones like the Rivers of America).

I would also include a Shark Reef like in Typhoon Lagoon where you could swim with gentle Leopard sharks.

What would you put in, could you add a Disney theme that isn't reflective of Little Mermaid or Monstro?

I think the biggest problem with that though is the weather isn't nice on a year round basis for a water park to succeed in Anaheim. Who would go to a water park when its cold?

You can adjust water temperature. Sea World does it all the time because orcas live in such cold water climes. I'm mostly curious about what would be put in it. THis is basically a Blue Sky thread.

Would you put in a water coaster that would have you look like you were rushing down a mountain river and following it into an estuary and ocean?

we talked about this in another thread, and the idea was to destroy the paradise pier hotel, rebuild a hotel as an victorian boardwalk hotel, and make the pool a water park, that would be available for everyone with a park hopper pass or an AP pass. And they would use the parking lot behind or to the side of the paradise pier to put the water park in.

I will be at DisneyWorld on April 29, 2011-May 4, 2011. If You Are Going The Same Time Message Me

it might just be me... but i'm a germaphobe and i get slightly disgusted even sharing a backyard swimming pool with people :X

i see your point about keeping the water temperature controlled.. but in a water park, a lot of people will be spending time out of the water walking to the next water attraction.. on a cold day, walking around wet can be dangerous!

perhaps introduce a very dynamic park hour schedule? open for certain seasons.. or closed at an early hour.. etc.

after re-reading the thread. it seems though some of us (including me) see a 'water park' as something like Six Flags' Hurricane Harbor or a Raging Waters, but it can also be seen as a water-THEMED park (like DisneySea). which one are we talking about?

None of the 4 water parks in Orange and LA Counties are open during the winter. If controlling the temperature of the water during the winter was an option I'm sure they would be doing it, but none of them do. I'm sure the amount of money and energy it takes to heat all that water simply is too much compared to the low crowds that would visit a water park in the winter.

I'm talking about a water-themed park. If temperature was not a condition, what attractions would you put in?

    Re: DLR Water Park

I cant believe no one ever mentioned anything about an indoor waterpark... this is completely blue sky but imagine if there was an indoor waterpark... the climate could be controlled, the slides and everything in it could have more theme, the park could take you to a whole different world that no other place can... Basically the entire waterpark could be contained in one extra large show building and to keep things in theme and hide the large show building housing this park they can build a hotel around the outer perimiter.... or they could go the route of making the entire show building not look like one and just theme the outer structure into something else that doesnt give that idea.

my idea is inside the park you are taken into the mermaids world.... sorta like the Kingdom Hearts Atlantica level where you have different parts of the sea from the little mermaid and different caves and caverns and jellyfish lanterns, sorta like Disney Sea's mermaid lagoon but with waterslides and waterfalls and all kinds of waterpark stuff... still theming an entire park to one movie is a bad idea but there are other ideas non movie related you can do with an indoor theme like entering a cavern that leads into a giant volcano that houses a waterpark, an ocean themed water park contained in a giant sphere like that one idea they had for housing aquariums with the port disney thing... only instead it would be larger, house an ocean themed waterpark, and be the centerpiece of a new hotel... really an indoor waterpark is the way to go and theres so much they could do with that idea.... in fact, if they want tall slides and dont want to build too high a footprint, they could pull a space mountain and tunnel a little below... the important thing is that they keep it looking pretty and not like some nasty looking building that becomes an eyesore

If Disney does an indoor park it has to be big, really big. Look at Ocean Dome in Japan, it has to be bigger and even better. Picture a Jules Verne theme which would work with the indoor big dome machine and topical island mix.

So you're suggesting adding something along the lines of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea? Anyhthing else?

    Re: DLR Water Park

Basically the entire Water Park has a Jules Verne 19th century mechanical feel with a touch of Art Nouveau. All the building parts are heavy steel and rivets, large gears appear to make the room move and the wave machine operate. Look at DLP's Discoveryland, WDW's 20K to get a feel. Set this in a tropical island setting mixed with lush landscaping. Very cool and like no other park anywhere.

There could be a 20K sub restaurant with a snorkel pool on either side with real fish. Flumes that look like large riveted pipes. Flight to the Moon canon to shoot water coaster riders on their way. The whole thing could be "related" to a blimp hanger from Island at the Top of the World with a Blimp bungee jump from the top of the dome. Volcanic caves and grottos and a big powerful wave pool like Typhoon Lagoon.

Why not the indoor Lava Lagoon water park originally developed for Disneyland Paris?

Where could they possibly fit a water park that big? Can anyone show me some google earth shots of where it might fit?

My thought was telling me there was not enough space for everything I was thinking of, so working with the space that they currently have on the resort, they could take the parking lot by the Paradise pier hotel, part of the hotel area by rebuilding the Paradise Pier Hotel [it looks like the parking lot itself is already half to 3/4 the size as the new Wet N Wild Phoenix waterpark we have here so if you so 3 levels like a teired cake it would be just as big as Wet N Wild and maybe a little bigger] not to mention this is in the never going to happen category but it doesnt hurt to use imagination.

So making use of that idea, the indoor waterpark would have to be multi leveled and make use of the space they have rather than making use of the space they have not... Thats one reason I was thinking of the ocean idea and being under the Disney Ocean and having water attractions that are themed to Nemo, Mermaid, Atlantis, 20000 Leagues, Pirates, and anything else ocean related and Disney [like a Disneyland for the Ocean themed Disney movies]... because you could theme the sloped walkways between upper and lower sections like undersea caverns and just like a parking structure fitting numerous cars in a smaller footprint of space, the park could have 3 main sections... one built into the ground featuring lazy rivers, shops, restaurants, snorkeling attractions, and wave pools... the one mid entrance section would house the locker village, main changing rooms, slide exits, and caverns all leading to different areas of the park... then one upper section featuring the slide entrances, and some other attactions... the park would be just as much about exploration under the water so there would be some live aquariums, surprises in the caverns, and other theming elements like a Sunken Black Pearl ship, the Nautilus, Ariels Grotto with prince eric statue, turtle talk with crush, etc.

But letting my imagination flow, here are my ideas for attractions.

    Lower Section...

*Wave Pool - [maybe a sunken ruins type of theme]

*Lazy River [going through undersea caverns and aquariums]

    *Tritons castle water play area

*Enclosed tornado funnel slide - [maybe a pirates/davy jones theme with mist projection effects like pirates at DL near the exit hole]

*Sinking Submarine attraction with water effects - replica of a submarine with water effects to simulate sinking and having the sub capsize

*Hurricane Halfpipe slide - themed to a shipwreck during a hurricane with extra rain effects.

*Exit pools for attractions on mid and top section

    Middle Section...

*Water Coaster that enters on the middle section, but exits on the lower section, Master Blaster Style slide

*body toilet bowl slides - Themed to Ursulas Cauldron [pitch black until you reach the bowl which has lighting effects and her cackle]

*Family raft style slides [2 different adventures to choose from] Both would feature AA's from either Mermaid or Nemo and lazy river elements in addition to slide elements. One slide would be like Mammoth Falls at our Phoenix waterpark and include a drop element with a tiny halfpipe element... another would have river raft slide elements to it... both exit in the lower section

*Inner tube slides - 3 to 4 to choose from... themed to something and a few would feature pitch black elements to them... exit on lower section

*Boogie board Slides - 2 to choose from... kinda reminiscent of High Extreme at Raging Waters but would have a theme to some Disney element... exit on lower section

Upper section... Houses all the wilder slides

*2 intertwining body speed slides that look like one large Eastern Australian Current slide [clear tubes in clear blue and clear white intertwining and themed to Crush and the EAC]... exits on middle section

*Vertical plunge waterslide - Themed to pirates walking off the plank and taking the plunge... exits on lower section

*Stingray's racing slides - themed to nemo and racers with a twisting element before the dips [think aquaticas racers... very similar]

*Speed Inner tube slides - 2 to choose from, inner tube slides with larger dips, wilder turns, and elements that intertwine with the caves and other caverns... exits on the middles section

*4 person inline tube slide - think patriot at wild rivers... would exit on middle section

the entrance caverns and aquariums for the park would be leading from the lobby of the newly rebuilt Paradise Pier hotel [renamed Disney's Pacifica Hotel]

The main slides would all end in runoff channels rather than pools with the exception of the cauldron ones so there would not have to be too many actual pools built as everything would be built onto an upper and lower level... now this would kill room for expansion as it would be all intertwined with everything but I am sure it could all fit if they know how to place it all... the lower section would be built into the ground about as deep as they had for the Paradise Pier hotel expansion or just a tad bit deeper... the middle section would be about as tall as the second or third floor of the Paradise Pier hotel... and the top teir would be as tall as the 6th or 7th floor of the hotel... that way the hotel towers could be built around it and the newly rebuilt hotel would have a fully themed water park housed inside it that would be accessed through the main lobby of the hotel

And dont tell me it cant be done, People have built rooftop pools and other things, I am sure Splash pools for slides could be fine on the top section or a solution to the problem would be having the slides exiting into a runoff canal like most body speed slides do... Inner tube slides also exit into run off canals too.

Obviously this would never happen but it doesnt hurt to use your imagination.
