Disneyland Monorail

Is the monorail from Downtown Disney a better way to get into the park? Does the monorail run from anywhere else?

If I stay at a hotel that is "across the street" from Disneyland like the Park Vue Inn is the walk from the hotel to the park reasonable?

Re: Disneyland Monorail

Your better off walking from Park vue to the main enterance. Going to DTD to hop on the monorail would kind of be pointless since you have to walk past the main entrance to get to it.

The monorail only stops in Tomorrowland and Downtown Disney.

Re: Disneyland Monorail

I haven't booked a hotel yet so I was trying to decide where around the park I wanted to stay. If it's easier to get into the park from the monorail than I would pick a hotel near DTD but if walking over is a better choice I can pick a different hotel.

My main concern is that after an entire day at the park am I really going to want to walk back to my hotel. How long of a walk would it be?

Re: Disneyland Monorail

I agree with Disneytwins. However, I do like going into the park in a "different" way, like from the GCH or via the Monorail occasionally, just to do something different from everyone else.

Re: Disneyland Monorail

Unless you're staying at the Disneyland Hotel, then the walk from the Downtown Disney Monorail station to any other hotel is probably going to be longer than walking from the main entrance to the hotels along Harbor Blvd.

You're better off walking! Serisously I cant believe how long it takes to actually get on the monorail from downtwon disney! Its been crowded lately too though.. So idk just depends when you'd be going.

That's right. Unless you are staying at the DLH or Paradise Pier you're best walking to the park.

Even if you get to the monorail station sometimes the wait is so long it is faster just to walk through DTD to get to the main entrance than it is to take the monorail.

If I'm not mistaken you are familiar with WDW? You will be shocked at how compact everything is at the DLR...

Re: Disneyland Monorail

I love our monorail, but due to the limited capacity o the system, it doesn't provide great transportation to the hotels because hotel guests seem to come in rushes, going back to the hotel for dinner, coming back in, leaving right after fireworks, etc. so the system can clog up leaving long lines at both stations...

And the Mark VII's don't have the best capacity ever...

Check with your hotel and see if it has a shuttle.

However, from your hotel, it is easy to just walk. And after a full day of walking around Disneyland anyway, it really isn't that much further to go.

I think you'll be just fine.

Re: Disneyland Monorail

Try Best Western Park Place in. It's directly across from the sidewalk that leads to the main enterance. That only gives you a small walk. I think Park Vue in isn't that far from that Best western (I think it's next door).

Re: Disneyland Monorail

Pretty much, if you're staying at Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Pier, then Monorail will probably work better for you since the next hotels are on Ball Rd to the north and Katella Ave to the south. You'll likely have to walk or use the shuttle system for the resort. Other posters have covered Harbor Blvd and the hotels that are closest to the pedestrian entrance. There's another pedestrian entrance on Katella that Darkbeer covered in his latest update. If you're hotel is next to the convention center, there's an alternative since they have a tram station by it. If you're on Ball and Disneyland Dr/ Ball and West Pl area, you can go over to West Pl and cut through the parking lot there to access the Mickey and Friends garage, walk up to the second floor, and walk to the opposite end where escalators take you down to the trams. Hop the tram and off you go to the theme parks entrance.

Re: Disneyland Monorail

We stayed at the Park Vue (good choice) and it is even closer to the park entrance then the Disney Hotels. Honestly, it is the closest hotel there is. The monorail really is uneffective at quickly transporting you to or from the park, as the waits are usually a train or too at peak times and everything at the Resort is so close together. But, that doesnt mean you should miss it! Even if the lines at the Disneyland Entrace are long, they flow quickly. Also note the shortest lines are usually on the far side of the entrance plaza.

This is true.

The only hotels that are "close" to Downtown Disney are the Disney hotels. Walking from the Monorail to, say, the Anabella or the Alpine would be farther and take longer than walking from one of the ones on Harbor that is just across the street, especially if you take the wait time for the monorail into account.
Anything not within a normal walking distance will have a shuttle or use ART, which drops you off near the main entrance plaza, on the Harbor side I think.

I really only use the Monorail entrance if I am visiting DTD and want to hop into the park for an hour or so, or if I am parked in the Simba Lot and walking through DTD to get to the park.

Or, of course, in the hypothetical situation where I am staying in one of the 3 Disney hotels.

Yes, but if you're staying at the Grand, you may as well walk to the DL main entrance instead of the DTD monorail station.

This is true. I've done this before myself. But once I get to the DTD station sometimes the line gets backed up so much that its faster just to walk the rest of the way.
