I took my mum to DLR on Friday. She hadn't been for over 15 years since she and my father were taking my sister and I annually. As expected, she thought I was insane when I was raving over how maintained most of the park was now. To her, it was like it had always been.
Much like anyone who experiences a *new* ride, she was eager to return to Star Tours again and was shocked to see no line. She enjoyed it a lot. She enjoyed Pirates as always, noticed the super splashy cannon balls, and wondered why the girl chasing scene was gone. She also liked the pirana on the Jungle Cruise.
We saw Billy Hill and Hill Billies and she thought they were talented, but missed the larger production numbers and better theme of the classic show. She complained about the poor shopping, especially in New Orleans Square and hated the cartoony overlay on the Haunted Mansion. Go figure, the mom hasn't seen Nightmare before Christmas and just thought the ride was ruined with cheap props. I avoided Pooh and the Tree House, I'm sure she would have had a cow. She really wanted to eat at the Tahitian Terrace, but, alas, I had to tell her it was no more. We did eat at the Blue Bayou where I got a free AP pin for, ironically, the Tahitian Terrace.
The biggest surprise of all? She really enjoyed the new rides. Nope, not the cartoony Buzz. The *new* rides at DCA. A Bug's Life was her 3rd Favorite ride, followed by Soarin', followed by her #1 favorite ride of the day... Tower of Terror. Who'd a thunk a mom would like that?
