Is Fantasmic the longest running show of its kind at Disneyland? It just doesn’t seem like any of the other parades or firework shows ever lasted this long…except for maybe that parade with the bugs and what not covered in lights?

    HI
I believe Fantasmic is 22 minutes long. I think the Electrical Parade was a little over 15 minutes. I also think Fantasmic is the longest show of its kind at DL. The Electrical Parade I believe ran from 1971 to 1996 in DL and then moved over to DCA a few years ago.

Interesting, thank you! But I was actually wondering if it was the longest running in terms of years?

According to Wikipedia the original Fantasy In The Sky ran from 1958-2000 can't vouch for all those years, but I remember it first hand from at least 1968.

Very good point here! Prior to 2000, I remember Fantasy in the Sky being the big show all throughout my childhood.

Dan, that's what I thought, but wasn't sure. I remember when they were digging out the river, outfitting it with all the mechanics for Fantasmic. So exciting!

TO bad they don't use those anymore!!! Now they use the CDS (Cast Deployment System). Every 15 minutes see a cast member running to a new location. Same lame!

Oh ok..sorry about that. I agree that the Fireworks/Fantasy in the Sky ran from 1958 to 2000. The EP ran for over 25 years and Fantasmic debuted about 17 years ago. I believe in the spring 1992..I could be wrong.

I believe some departments still do, unless they changed it recently.

Congratulations on your engagement and thanks for posting the trip report.
I'm not sure, but I think I saw you and your fiance the night before the half marathon. My sister and I ran the 5K and then spent the day at DL. Around 10:30 p.m. we boarded the #3 bus to go to our hotel. We sat next to the rear door of the bus and a couple that looked like you sat down across from the door. Our hotel was the first stop and it wasn't until we got off the bus that it hit me who the guy looked like (we'd been going since 4:30 a.m. so my brain was a little sluggish). I'd seen photos of you here on Micechat. Of course by then it was to late to say anything to the guy because the bus had left and I was a little surprised someone running a half marathon at 6am the next morning would be up at that hour the night before anyway so I dismissed it. But the photo of you in the tea cup is pretty much how I remember the guy looking. Again, my brain was sluggish so the memory is a little fuzzy. Anyway, could that've been you and your bride to be? If it was, sorry I was so slow to realize or I would've said hi. Thanks again for the TR.

Re: THE 2009 Half Marathon Trip Report, etc.

Hey Seahorse, that definitely could have been us! We tried to walk from the hotel to the park the first couple of days, but then decided to save our legs beginning the afternoon of day two leading up to the 5K. I know I probably stayed out a little too late for someone running the half, but that has kind of been the trend the last three years. I’m there, I want to enjoy the parks! From everything I read, it is the sleep you get three nights before the big day that is most important. But then again, that wasn’t much either! I remember in 2007, the first year I did the half, it was like 11:45 at night and I was waiting for Nemo and a family from near our hood, Walnut Creek, saw me wearing the race shirt and was like “what the heck are you still doing at the park?” But I had never ridden Nemo, so I needed to hang in there! Rides first, run second, I guess!

I wish you would have said hello, but no sweat. I always think I see mice chatter guys and girls around the park, but never know for sure because I don’t go to the meets and the avatar photos are just too small!

And thank you for the kind words on the trip report, much appreciated!
