RE: Disney Animatronics -- who are they outsourcing to?

Hey all,

I wanted to know who Disney turns to when they need help building their animatronics. I remember a link to a man's webpage who is supposed to be the authority on animatronics and has had extensive work with both WDI and other big entertainment firms. If you happen to know whoI'm talking about, kindly let me know. I'd greatly appreciate it.

I think it may be Sally Corporation Dark Rides for some of their work, not positive on that though.

There are many companies that can build animatronics.

Sally Corp is one (mentioned above)

Garner Holt is another


Who is Disney's main outsourcer? Well Disney buys from the lowest bidder, meaning if Garner Holt says "Hey, we'll build that for $1,000" and then Sally Corp comes along and says "$800, and we'll do it."
Disney will pick Sally Corp. to build the equiptment.

I think you ment to say: If Walt Disney Imagineering still makes the Anmatronics themselves?

To answer your question: Well, they still do, but they only will if they know what they're planning for the AA hasn't been done before (Mr. Potato Head in TSMM for example with the ear). Thats my opinion.

The reason why the outsourcing is common now with the Company is because the costs of building an AA has gone up. It's cheaper and more affordable to have another company build it.

The yeti in EE, was the last big AA that WDI built. And if you look into how much it cost to build this impressive AA, you would see why companies like Garner Holt do things for them.

Sarcos www.sarcos.com has also done Animatronics for Disney, I believe they developed the A100 technology.
