    Unsure About Haunted Mansion Holiday

If Iím correct, this is based on The Nightmare Before Christmas. Now, I really donít like this movie, so I have no current plans to go on it. On Saturday, I got a fast pass for it, but then decided not to go on it because I remembered I always hated that movie. I think Iím just going to steer clear of it until they change it back. I know I hear nothing but good things about it, but I just donít expect too much from it. Is it a good ride to go on even if you donít enjoy the movie or is it only good for those who like it?

Right now the only way I'd go on it is if I was with someone else and they forced me to.

Even if you don't like the movie. I think you'll like the ride overlay. Aside from a few of the characters showing up here and there, it is really just like the Haunted Mansion has gotten dressed up for Christmas Halloween style. With cute music and a few new effects. Get a FP and just go see it. Won't hurt you even if you don't like it. I think it is fun just to see what they can do with the Haunted Mansion that you would never have thought of before. How the effects can be used and changed to adapt to an altered story line.

    Very fun.

Well, if you absolutely refuse to have an open mind about it, then you shouldn't go on it.

It has elements from the movie...it doesn't make the ride the actual movie.

You might also want to take into consideration that this ride may never come to Disneyland again after this season is over.

I like to go by the saying "Try [just about] everything once."

It's not going to kill you, but if you're going to walk in and plan to hate it, then you will.

Re: Unsure About Haunted Mansion Holiday

The classic Haunted Mansion is done in the same style of pirates. An enhanced reality look. Just as every pirate *could* be a real person, everything in the Haunted Mansion *could* be real (aside from the whole notion of ghosts, the style is realistic). The Nightmare before Christmas overlay is very cartoonish. If you don't like the movie, or the idea of cartoons or oversized toys in an otherwise realistic setting, you'll dislike the overlay. It's a matter of taste. To some it's exactly like replacing the Pirates with Small World Dolls.

On the good side, it's well done for an overlay, way better than the Pooh ride, and it presents some unique visuals.

My wife didn't care for "Nightmare before Christmas" until she rode HMH.

The kids and I loved the movie but she could never get into it. The first year it was open we rode and she couldn't wait to get back home and watch the movie.

Maybe the same will happen for you.

I agree with the others. See it/ride it at least once.

I'm not a fan of the movie either, but I always go on it. Some of the effects and little things here and there are neat and fun to see... as a whole, I don't particuarly like the overlay, but it's nice to get a change every now and then, so I go on it.

At least get another FastPass and go on it once with an open mind. A lot of it is obnoxious and black-lighted out like crazy, but its cute and some of its really cool... the Jack Skellington animatronic is really nice, for instance, even if you aren't particuarly fond of the character.

I really like some of the work they did on the soundtrack... the stretching gallery is especially good score-wise. Check it out!

Like others, I say get a fastpass again and try it. You never know you may end up really liking it. Though also like everyone else, if you go in with the plan of hating it, then you're going to hate it, funny how the mind works sometimes. Go in with an open mind and try it, if ya don't like it, no major loss on your part, you're local, you are able to be at the park frequently, may as well experience the new things.

*giggle* does this hold true if your name is Mikey?

Murphy...I would say try it. At least you can say after "I don't like it" or "Wow It was fun".

For me, I don't know if I will ever be able to try it. The only time it seems I can get to Disneyland is when its not on (summertime). Last year was a fluke and I got to go in September but it was closed for refurb so I don't even remember what it was like (last time I went to DL was 13 years before that).

Do it for those that can't be there. Try it and tell me what I am missing or not missing.
Always keep smiling because you never know who is falling in love with it.

Re: Unsure About Haunted Mansion Holiday

I was not a big fan of Nightmare Before Christmas, either. But the
Haunted Makeover of the Mansion is so much more fun than the
Tim Burton's movie. It adds so many whimsical details, in true
style of the original Disney Haunted Mansion.

To me it's more like "What would happen if the Adams Family or
The Musnters" tv shows took over the Haunted Mansion. I'm
absolutely sure Morticia Adams had a Man Eating Wreath and
Man Eating plant in her greenhouse. Thinking about it , both
those tv shows premiered in the 1960's, just like the Haunted
    Mansion.

Re: Unsure About Haunted Mansion Holiday

Even though I didn't really care for the Nightmare Before Christmas, I decided to be open-minded and try the holiday overlay last year. Suffice it to say that I didn't enjoy the ride. It's not that it was poorly done, or that it was "bad." I just don't like that overall atmosphere that the overlay and the movie share. Even though I knew that the normal Haunted Mansion would be returning in another month or two, I felt like one of my favorite rides had been forever destroyed.

But a lot of people love the overlay, and there's nothing wrong with that. Give it a try with an open mind. You may end up like me. But what's there to lose? You may find it very entertaining.

Ultimately, I'm glad I saw the overlay because I at least know what people are talking about. I figure HMH won't be returning for too many more years, so it was an interesting part of DL "history" to witness.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

I didn't like the Haunted Mansion movie but there's no way that would stop me from getting on the ride time and time again.
You can think I'm wrong, but that's no reason to quit thinking.
