The roads around the Resort and the surrounding area would've been SO much more aesthetic. I hope they don't forget to redo these areas after a while, they are so plain and ugly. I wish they had done it right the first time so none of this would even be necessary.

Another great read about WestCot is featured
by clicking here.

The article is entitled,
"Westcot... The Original Disneyland Second Theme Park" courtesy of Blue Sky Disney.

I say this a lot, but I'm actually very glad WestCot wasn't chosen to be the new park. It would have basically been a clone of a concept that should be very unique to Walt Disney World. The idea of EPCOT (the city) and the park it evolved into is the center of WDW history, and the reason it exists. Just see my signature below... Walt bought 44 square miles in Orlando so he could try out a brilliant, innovative concept, and Epcot was the result of that. Whatever was to be built across from Disneyland should have been just as innovative and original... WestCot wasn't.

Just my two cents.

I understand it was estimated to death.

Wow, as a Santa Barbara resident I am quite amazed how our mission was personally mentioned, although their art looks a lot better than anything here.

What was the reason why they dropped Westcot for DCA?

Ahh yes, i remember it like it was yesterday. Long Beach was never going to get Disney Seas with a monorail connecting it to Anaheim... but it seemed interesting to play along.

and even if it did fit, in the long run, im glad they didnt. i know many like to rip on DCA, but much of it is original, and not just a lift from Florida. that part i like

Well, DCA as it originally came about at least missed that mark, by a mile.

Inside the space where they eventually put in that insipid Super Speed Tunnel, their used to be a model of Walt Disney's Environmental Prototype City of Tomorrow (with twinkling city lights and such) that you could see while riding the Peoplemover,

Yeah - those were the days...and you got up out of the carousel theater and took a speedway ramp up to the next level where you could walk around and view it to your hearts content...

But that's another topic

This really isn't true, I've read the entire masterplan for the WestCOT proposal and the plans for the streets around the resort area were about 90% the same as what they did for DCA. They left a few things out but basically the style of landscaping, layout of roads and signage requirements and everything was the same.

and on that tip, i think the roads around the resort look GREAT! They are a huge improvement from before DL became "the resort" in 2001.

The landscaping is very well done considering they dont have much room and the city is fully built out, so they could only "improve" the roads, not "create" them from scratch
