    Starcade's Future

Over the years starcade has been reduced from a grand two story arcade to a 1 floor arcade that has nothing over an E rating.

it's been around for 32 years now and im sure back when it was first opened it fit Tomorrowland quite well. and probably did for a long time. but now Arcade's are retro and have become increasingly difficult to find.

I consider myself to be an avid gamer and i love arcades, but they're no longer cutting edge as there are very few companies making arcades anymore for the U.S. Many of the games in starcade are dated and theres no longer new games that can rotate older games out. Arcades have become fond memories for most of us.

With all this considered i was thinking about the next update to tomorrowland that is said to happen in 2012. I feel like its very likely starcade will be removed. It's really just conjecture on my part, but im wondering if anyone has seen or heard anything that might support my supposition.

Nothing official but I've heard a few theories that it should be a new Inner Space/indoor queue for SM.

I hope it doesn't get removed, although arcades are pretty dated now and yes the games in the Starcade are old they are still fun to play. The only new-ish game I saw in there was the Guitar Hero Arcade

I go to Disneyland to escape away from reality, and arcades make me feel like im at a movie theater. No thanks on Starcade.

    Cool Re: Starcade's Future

Yeah it is pretty lame. They could use that as a ride if they take out the store in front.

    Re: Starcade's Future

I agree that Starcade is essentially a waste of space that could be put to such good use in a new Tomorrowland attraction. I feel the same about HISTA, Innoventions, and all that second-floor area with tabled, by the SM queue. I think a lot of people agree with that pretty strongly.

The way Tomorrowland is going lately, with the sole exception of the upcoming Star Tours II, Yesterland really would be a more apropos name for it.

    Re: Starcade's Future

Every time I walk past Starcade there are maybe 5-6 people in there, even when the park is crowded. Nobody is going to pay $72 to get into Disneyland and then spend all day playing video games that they could play somewhere else and miss out on all the other attractions. It has to be just a handful of kids with APs who just go in occasionally for a change of pace.

    Re: Starcade's Future

I hope they remove it. It's a waist of space. They should turn it into some awesome ride and use the upstairs too. I'd rather have a ride there then a stupid arcade. Who goes to Disneyland for an arcade?! If you want to play arcade games then you'll obviously go to some pizza place

Disney hasn't announced any plans or anything and it'll probably be a while before it is removed. Disney is too busy with DCA and are neglecting Tomorrowland at the moment. Even if it does get removed then it will probably sit there empty for quite a while

I remember when it was two stories *sigh*

I used to like it, but haven't even bothered with it for quite some time.

The starcade is something that I won't be saddened to see leave. They need to gut and put something useful in there. I've seen the 2nd floor from SM's queue and it's a big waste of space.

    Re: Starcade's Future

Considering "video gaming" is so common place in households from X-Box, etc ..... My gut feeling is it will bite the dust. And the area repurposed for a reconfigured land. To what? Who knows.

    It's been so neglected.
It was 1999 when they removed any game that was remotely "violent" .. and condensed whatever was left to one story. (1st floor) .. and 2nd story a barren waste. A decade now.

Get rid of it. Rip it out. It shouldn't even be a part of Disneyland.

    Re: Starcade's Future

i used to work in a video arcade..back in the days when street firghter II was all the rage.....after the birth of the ps2 and xbox.. and later the ps3 it became more profitable to make the video games for consloles then spending the time and money to keep up newer arcade titles.....starcade unfortunately is bareley hanging on.even chukie cheese has ditched alot of video games in lew of skeeball and ticket dispensers..starcade needs to close.video arcades are going the way of the drive in movies....
