Thanks for all the reference photos, guys. It's crazy how similar and, dare I say, accurate these buildings are in DCA.

well if you read Baloo's earlier post he mentioned the different design elements that Paradise Pier will have in the four corners of the land (the garden, plaza, boardwalk, ariel's grotto).

I was looking through pictures of Luna Park and found this:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...land%2C_NY.jpg

notice the planter/gazebo in the middle - with what looks like an egg-shaped topper! the building behind it slightly resembles the TLM structure, with the giant arch at the center. And of course, the top part of the buildings looks a lot like the ariel's grotto area (with the swirls/crowns.) the building in the back also has big egg-shaped decorations.

If this is true, we may be seeing four statues at the four corners, like the picture posted in the link. Overall, the whole progress of the park has been great. Can't wait for it to be finished and see it in person.

I hadn't noticed the smaller statues around the edge of the planter, thanks for pointing that out. Now the only thing we'll be missing are the flags, which someone else pointed out earlier

Flags are one thing that they seem to always have in the concept art but never actually do. I bet they don't want to add extra maintenance since the would have to constantly keep replacing them. But who knows, maybe it will really happen on the Mermaid building at least. It will really add to the area.

I'm still confused at what those windows could be on the POM. They seem too high to be directional signs. Look at pictures with a worker standing next to it for reference.

possibly.. one interesting thing Steven mentioned in the WoC presentation - he said the show would start in the audience and sweep out into the lagoon. Not sure what that means... maybe he meant the interactive fountain in the viewing area? lasers?

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. East and West Coast piers and boardwalks took their cues from each other.

The other difference I noticed between your great wiki photo and whats happening is DCA is the abundance of lights on the buildingd themselves and not just inside them or around signage. The photo seems to have taken some inspiration from Tivoli Gardens. May it eventually happen at DCA.

I think we will see some of that in the new Paradise Garden Grill area, which is supposed to feature lush gardens.. maybe inspired by Tivoli? There was concept art of the new dining area, I don't know if anyone still has the link to that.

I don't think so. The PoM is in a hub location between lands. It's not really part of the viewing park itself, but more of an entrance to the park. I think it is too far from the show itself to participate.

I'm almost thinking speakers in that pillar/PoM/Tower/Lighthouse/ whatever, ala the surround sound speakers hidden in NOS for Fantasmic.

another thing to note and i am not sure if it had been brought up before but even the original Paradise Pier had other elements that were directly lifted from the old Pike amusement park as well as the original Santa monica pier park. WDI was able after all the cutbacks of DCA 1.0 still able to throw in some nice touches that represented their original vision.

The lightpost (the ones with the ugly sunbursts and aqua color) are replicas of light posts from the above mention seaside parks. all they really have to do is remove the sunburst around them and repaint them and they would work much better with the new direction the pier is taking. There are other smaller details around Paradise Pier similar to the light post that they duplicated but were overshadowed by the lack of detail in other area around the pier
