This is what I'm leaning towards as well. And not just for shows, but for general area music as well. It's a perfectly place to put sound into that area without having to have it too loud (like it would if the speakers were on the perimeter only.

Thanks for the orientation. I think I understand now why there is so much steel in the concrete track base.

This is an older picture from mint and it shows how they smoothed and squared off the grading on the underside of the hump in the track before laying the the many layers of re-bar.

They probably laid some smooth form material at the bottom where the queue tunnel will be before laying the rest of the re-bar. Once the concrete is poured and allowed sufficient time to cure they can dig the earth out from underneath the tunnel and finish grading the queue to the loading area.

Earth forming...I like it.

Maybe that is why they installed insulation on the inside. PoM=RBSC (Really Big Speaker Cabinet) , or PoM= Piller of Music

thats just it, the old seaside piers that lined the coast did not have structures that all matched. The builders and designers of those amusement parks took several architectures and meshed them together and at the same time added some very specific elements which people automatically relate to victorian..

now you also have to remember that when someone refers to a victorian structure it could be one of many architectural styles of which were built during the victorian era. You could have structures that have the gingerbread victorian architecture but there is also the possibility of victorian gothic revival.

So what WDI is doing with the land fit the style that some people might consider victorian.

A nice change from the constant criticism that Disney has been getting lately.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker VIII

Thanks for the pictures, these are great. couple quick notes
A) Its amazing how quickly they are working on Paradise park now, it appears they may reach that december deadline?
B )They really seem to be working and testing Chernabog... It seems like everytime I see photos recently or have visited Chernabog has been in some sort of mode. I wonder if for future show updates the chernabog apparatus could be used to create other characters.
C) I think the POM looks nice, Its growing on me , I think once spring 2010 rolls around and all the little details like Silly Symphony swings, the new designs for the shops by mania will really look great and help people understand the look and feel the imagineers are going for.

Thats all for now. Thanks again for the photos

Have the colors just been messed with in that photo or is Grizzly Peak looking more brownish than before? I seem to recall it being more grayish.

Wow they're moving fast! I'm really curious to see how the final flooring will look like. I think there might be another layer to all the concrete seeing as they've cut square sections. Wonder what the finished product will be! Great photos!

Love the PoM, and looks like lots of more concrete went in! We need a pic from the Fun Wheel...

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker VIII

I have to say, not a fan of the PoM topper...sigh...

Thanks for all the photos everyone has posted of the old theme parks--but even then, I think those were a great deal more detailed than what we're seeing at DCA. As for the PoM--am I the only one who thinks the feature is much too small for its base? I honestly think the base is more impressive! The old-time spires that have been posted have much more interesting shapes than that. If it were ~20 feet higher and had more shape than a simple cone, I might be able to take it--color, "industrial whimsy" and all...

I do rather like the Ariel's grotto portion of the pier (when the park opened, it was the best themed of the whole pier! Thankfully with TSMM the bar has been raised) but the toppers are my least favorite part, and most egregiously the one that looks like a giant soft serve ice cream cone. Not ok. The arches, the gingerbread, the awnings? Lovely! And the popcorn lights, especially now the pond is slightly filled and you can see the grotto reflected at nighttime--beautiful. But not the Raspberry Swirl Soy Frozen Yogurt Delight they're trying to pass off as a spire!

I'd also like to agree that Mickey's Fun Wheel = not up to snuff. I'm of the opinion that Mickeys should be hidden. And the LEDs look too modern to make the effect convincing--couldn't they program some variant of popcorn lights to do a light show of some kind? A little modern technology and showmanship woven into the theme, to give the guests the feeling of how cool it must have seemed back in the day, not saying, "Oh, btw everyone, you're still in 2009."
