    Max Capacity???

I was at the park last week and was required to get a hand stamp because it was so busy... wow.

I overheard 2 things about Disney's max capacity. A cast member said that they were getting close to max, and a guy I was in line next to said that the night before they stopped letting people in. I had no idea they could do that!

Anyone happen to know what the max is???

[btw - I asked my bf and he said its when you have to climb over other people's shoulders to get down main st. - cracked me up =) ]

I'm surprised that the fire department hasn't said anything about it yet.

There actually is no "magic number." Ultimatley the max capacity is determined by the fire marshall. He or She takes into consideration:

-Attractions that are open vs closed (as they are keeping guests off walkways and out of common areas)

-Walkways that may be behind refurb walls

-Stores that are closed for refurb

    -and more!

At night, the number goes down, with the closing of toontown and some fantasyland attractions for pyro.

The number of 80K is off, but it is a high ATTENDANCE number (ie the number of people who have been to the park in one day.) Capacity is in the high 50000s. It is dependent on rides that are open/which walkways are closed/etc... The fire marshal determines when the park will close. They can even close lands (usually NOS.)
If you see a cute yellow lab puppy with a yellow cape, WAVE! It might be us! (Or it may be someone else that lurks here!) Thank you for asking before you pet! Next trip, Dec 22-Jan 3rd.

DL has it's very own official fire dept. that is employed by "real" firemen and subject to all state fire dept. regulations. The firemen you see at DL aren't in costume, ya know. You can bet they're doing eveything that is legal.

NOTE: Not everything at DL is a fantasy.

So less than 10% of Annual Passholders can go to Disneyland at any one time. If true, they've sold too many APs in my opinion.

And Disney knows that all of the AP'ers wont show up at the same time, just as airlines over-book their flights...

if they close a land due to the park reaching capacity, wouldn't this just increase the traffic in the other lands?

They close a land when that specific area has too many people. When the congestion eases, it will reopen. We have had this happen on New Years Eve and the 4th of July. We had seating to Fantasmic! and despite this, the fire marshal had closed NOS, and my son was on the wrong side of the closure. He was unable to join us.

/\ Thanks. I've always wondered what the true number is. I've always heard 80,000. (And it seems like it on those packed days! LOL)

I believe I said 10%, not a far fetched number when there are short time special attractions at the park.
