Re: Carson Mansion: Mystic Manor for DCA?

The primary influences for Mystic Manor's
architecture is one that has already been discussed
throughout this thread which is the Carson Mansion.

As for myself, though I too believe that mansion
serves inspiration for the Mystic Mansion, I also
believe this other mansion (which is also found
in California) delivers its influence onto the
    design of Mystic Manor.

    Particularly the "onion" dome.

    This is the Morey Mansion.

    Good Day Sacramento

    You think that's Carson Mansion?

Side by side comparison may be in order again.

I think it's more like the Winchester Mansion.

From talking with the Imagineers at D23 Expo, it looks to be a cross between Haunted Mansion, the TDS Tower Of Terror Preshow (the home of a contemporary of Hightower), and the Winnie the Pooh ride vehicles from TDL. In other words, totally awesome.

It is interesting that the main starting point of the Manor design is the Carson Mansion, with some other touches, including details to make it fit more in its jungle setting.

After it's been in operation for 5 years exclusively at HKDL, can they build another one here? Would it be redundant? Or would they change it up even more, to differentiate it? Or could they share a backstory with ToT?

For the record, as much as I love the Twilight Zone (and I really do!), I prefer the TDS Hotel Hightower story.

I'd love to see Mystic Manor or something like it show up in the US, but I wonder if that will ever happen. I'd at least like to see something using the Pooh ride system.

    This is HKDL's Haunted Mansion.

I'd just like to know when DLR will ever get a new attraction that uses the trackless vehicle system... Maybe something to replace Innoventions??

But they just added the arm-coaster! Or was that WDW only?

I saw DCA as a chance to have a clean slate and create unique original attractions. Soarin comes to mind. Unfortunately that's as far as they got... GRR is not only a remake, it's a bad remake. TOT is a transplant. Screamin is a steel coaster disguised as a wooden one but lacking the excitement of either one. Fun wheel is also a bad remake... and now the answer is "spray paint characters on everything and resell it as a brand new park".

As much as I would love a Winchester House or Whaley House or Carson Mansion I know it likely will not happen... unless they can figure out a way of tying it to a specific character.

Even though I love character- and movie-based attractions, I agree there's got to be some more originality in the US parks.

There were original attractions in the original DCA. In fact, the first parade for the park was character-free. But people didn't want it. The people want characters and you have to give people what they want! Why do you think TDS is getting Midway Mania, Turtle Talk with Crush, and will possibly be getting Fantasmic in the future?

And so far I haven't seen any spray-painted characters.

This term was in reference to Disney's answer about the failing DCA... "We'll just paint characters on everything." Funwheel, Swings, GSS (which makes no sense I might add), Boardwalk Games, TLM, Carsland, Bugsland, Monsters, Turtle Talk, Brother Bear show... the list goes on...

My point is that Disney initially tried to be unique and due to a variety of reasons failed. The failure was then blamed on the unique factor instead of on those underlying issues that made things fail (for example no budget or bad concept). Disney now will only approve "safe" concepts that are directly tied into already successful franchises... modern Disney Company likely would not build a Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder Mountain, or Jungle Cruise unless there were characters tied to it. Kids wouldn't talk about an exciting safar where they saw wild animals on the Jungle Cruise. They'd talk about seeing Baloo on Jungle Book Cruise.

Stuffing more characters into the park may bring people in initially, but will they come back? People initially went to Disneyland for the experiences, the characters were icing on the proverbial cake. Now all you see from modern Disney is a character tie in.

Agreed with that! GSS (which makes no sense I might add)

Re: Boardwalk Games - they are so much better and more Disney like now. I would never pay money to play them, but if you like these types of games, then they should be Disney.
