ToT question: what's at the "ends" of the building?

If you look at the DCA's ToT from the North (or South), you'll notice that
there are two multi-storied (guess 2 or 3) sections jutting out from the
top portion of the building on both sides (short sides of the building).

I've noticed it in the newly (being) constructed
ToT in TDS as well. Unfortunately, I don't remember if the MGM's version
    has them.

Does anyone know what they're there for? My guess is that it must be
something for the ride system since it's actually something that's causes
a problem for the overall design (esp in DCA) and it exists in two ToTs (at least).

That cantilevered area is to allow enough space on the top floor for the elevator's motor. The entire assembly (motor+brakes+cable drum) for each shaft is about the size of a 30' long delivery truck.

The MGM Tower has them but they are not nearly as pronounced.

they also allow extra air to escape as the elevators move up and down (and its a LOT of air, believe me!)

Yeah, I rememeber when at WDW they were testing them and they blew out the wall becuase of the air blowing at such a high rate. Its also why the cars have grates on the floor instead of a soild floor. =D oops!

It's Walt's cryogenic vault. They moved him from the Florida one to Anaheim's.
