Ursula in Fantasmic

While I'm sure this has been posted before, I seem to remember commercials for Fantasmic when I was very young and there was a gigantic Ursula float that was in the show..

Whatever happened to her? Did she break down and was never repaired? Cost too much money to run?

Those seem like logical solutions to problems at Disneyland..

Anyone have information on this?

Poor Fantasmic!... Such a great show, one of the crowd favs at DL, and it dies a little every day. Things break, and don't get fixed. Just left out. Fantasmic! should really have it's own budget, so it can be kept up. Maybe even someday we'll have a dragon that actually looks like a dragon, rather than a wireframe rendering of one that hasn't been textured yet... It's sad, because I absolutely love Fantasmic!.

And yes, there used to be an Ursula float...

I dont honestly know what happened to her! But I miss her part in the show. I was astounded by the"float" of her character. I have not seen her in the show since 1993. I wish they would do a refurb of the show since it is one of their biggest crowd pleasers. One thing I was told, is that the show was only supposed to last 10 years.

I have always wondered if this is true in how Disney plans a show?
I would LOVE to see her back in the show along with any other "left out" characters or aspects of the show. Fantasmic is never the same show which is good and not so good.

the ursula "barge" was removed about 6 years ago because of reliability concerns.

I saw a video on the web once, and it included urusla... Isn't that the only bit of show that's been scrapped?

I recall that the original dragon was a spectacular effect and then I believe it caught on fire. When I saw the new and improved version it really looked cheesy.

The dragons always just been that head and a crane type thing with plastic hanging... Visions fantastic has a video of backstage fantasmic, and shows the making of it...

It's always been the head on a stick, but to their credit they've gotten better at covering the "body" a bit and making it look better.

Exactly. Actually the dragon head has improved over the years. I dont think there was that "electicity" light effect on the wings in the original show. And the dragon NEVER caught fire. It always shoots fire out of its mouth, just before another fire ignites the gas bubbles coming up through the Rivers of America.

The Ursula float was a giant inflatable (similar looking to the Parade of Dreams Ursula). I don't think it was animatronic, but her arms would flap around. Supposedly the inflatable fell into disrepair over the years and it was simply too expensive to create another one. In other words, she popped one too many times She was way cool, and came out when Ursula talks about taking matters into her own testicles.
