Re: Toy Story the Musical to replace Aladdin

So many things need improving in California Adventure...Aladdin is not one of them. It's a great show that seems to pack them in constantly

    If it ain't broke...

Re: Toy Story the Musical to replace Aladdin

Aladdin is great, but it's time for a new show. It's great that they'll be bringing in yet another new attraction during the time period Mermaid and Carsland open.

From what I recall on a previous thread about this show, is that it just isn't a great show.

I'm not so concerned that it's a Pixar property, as much that Toy Story is not a musical. Disney has a huge library of musical classics that should be perfect for a broadway style show.

I'm slightly pessimistic, but hopeful this will not be a cheap production. They're shelling out the bucks on the DCA makeover, why would they do this on the cheap?

The version that people are criticizing is the show on the Disney cruise ship. I have no doubt that having it in the Hyperion (with John Lasseter looking over their shoulder), this will be a bigger and better version. I'm excited about the potential since its a good story and really in its own right it could be considered a Disney classic as well. I'm taking a very patient and optimistic wait-and-see approach.
I'm literally a born Disney fan! I was born at Providence St. Joseph Med Center right across the street from Disney Studios in Burbank. The same hospital where Walt died.

I feel there are so many other things at DCA that need attention before a new show goes into the Hyperion. Its just simply not necessary right now, plus its another TOY STORY element added to the parks. *yuck*

If Disney's California Adventure changes it's name to Pixarland I would be glad that Toy Story takes over Aladdin.

I love Aladdin, but I welcome the change. Change is good. I'd rather see a new show in there than having the same shows running for over a decade (cough DHS stage shows).

does Aladdin fit into California Adventure? No. it doesn't have to, it's a show inside a Hollywood theatre.. the theme doesn't come into play.

If it is the same one as the cruise lines then NO! From the videos I have seen it is awful. I love Toy Story but that one is horrendous.
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

I think it is time for a change as Aladdin has been there forever and a day... but not sure a Toy Story musical is a great choice.

I guess it could go either way. For instance the Lion King show at AK is GREAT but I'm not so thrilled with the Nemo show.

I don't really have an issue with Aladdin being replaced, I think it's about time...but with Toy Story? I think there are better alternatives.

If we are already on this blog, we are fans of Disney. As a fan of Disney, I will simply trust in the fact that they know how to provide good entertainment and will enjoy it for what it is. They haven't failed me yet, (except for maybe the house of the future that has no bathroom) Do people not go to the bathroom in the future?

I'm pretty sure they don't. I've never once seen a bathroom in Star Wars. I've even scoured the various Star Wars cross-section books. No bathrooms.

That being said, I'll reserve judgment until I see the show, but right now I'm leaning towards "opposed". I've got a good deal to say about the show, but nothing that hasn't already been said here.

Re: Toy Story the Musical to replace Aladdin

I get why they're changing it but it still makes me very very sad.

    Aladdin Pros:
    - The show is always different because genie can be very topical without being out of character. (buzz talking about Palin, Twitter or gov wouldn't work)
    - jasmines are so incredibly talented. People act as if American idol contestants are so amazing but you know what? Disney parks employ people who are just as beautiful and infinitely more TALENTED. They'll never get a chance to look like fools at the AMA's but they get to be appreciated for their pure talent

    Toy Story Cons:
    - popularity. Aladdin is always a full theater but The lines for toy story will be obnoxious. Toy story Mania is just nuts with lines.
-pixar love waning. I'm still a pixar gambit but to be honest this is getting out of hand.
-Pixar Park. I always felt they should retheme the entire DCA. Well they won't make it pixar park... Yet they're bringing in yet another pixar attraction?
-kids. I know, "think of the children" but I love Aladdin and so does my kid. Toy story is a great movie but will it skew too young?
    - quality. This is the big one. If it's great I'll be fine. If not...we'll see.

So that's my opinion. I hope this news at least motivates someone to get a pro level recording of the show. Aladdin the musical is one of those things I want to remember forever (in HD)

From the videos alone, I'm hoping they do something with the music more than anything else. What a horrible show with awful songs and staging that makes no sense. Just a steaming pile of awful.
