Re: My Perfect not-too-distant future Disneyland Guide

I like most of your ideas a lot Jeff. From what I can recall the major difference from the last version that you did is the elimination of Toontown, right? I actually had been thinking about a London themed land with a Mary Poppins ride for DLR's third gate for a long time. It could also have a 100 acre woods adjacent to it with a new worthy Pooh ride, since I'm all for evicting him from CC. I would probably not get rid of Toontown though, I think the concept has unreached potential, but I do love the London idea.

I also kind of feel the same way about Mystery Bay, it could be done in the third gate too, and leave a little more room for FL. But, I'd be happy if we got a version of WRE and still had space for a fully fleshed out Mystery Bay type land. I suppose it's not impossible, just a lot of reworking of backstage, but certainly it would seem feasible.

I really love your idea of bringing back the keel boats as transportation as well as fun. I also love most of the food and restaurant ideas. I also love the Country Bear Mountain concept, but I do see the advantage of having a ride for kids there that can't ride Splash. I could nit pick a few other things I'd change, I think you may be overdoing the bringing back of old things in TL, but overall I really like most of your ideas and wouldn't have much to complain about if they did exactly what you suggest.

Re: My Perfect not-too-distant future Disneyland Guide

I don't like the idea of losing Toontown, but I do like the idea of a London section. "London Lane" was an idea I had for the "Main Street" of a fantasy/mythology-themed theme park, including a charming little tea room, a mysterious bookshop, those big red busses travelling up and down the street, and a few hidden fantasy surprises that would be noticed by the sharp-eyed visitor (like "fairies" suddenly appearing and disappearing in a bush).

You could also turn onto Fleet Street, the home of Mr. Todd's Wild Ride (working title), a darkly humorous attraction based upon the stage and film versions of Sweeney Todd (probably not Disneyland appropriate). The vehicle would be, of course, a barber chair. The part that's clearest in my mind is the climax, where you would "climb the steps" to Mr. Todd's Barber Shop, where he would greet you, "how 'bout a shave?" After crossing the room and spinning about, your chair would lean back as he would seem to loom over you with the razor, and as the lighting turns red, the chair would go down a backwards drop, (based on the trap door leading to the cellar). In the cellar, you would enter the oven. (Ideally, here, your vehicle would somehow transform into a pie, though I'm not sure how that would happen ). The next scene would have you travelling down a long table, where hungry people with forks take stabs towards you while singing "God, That's Good" (a song from the show). Wow, I never realized how strange all that sounded until I typed it out just now!

Anyway, yeah...a London section would be good Disney actually has lots of theme-park-adaptable movies set in England - unlike California. (They do have lots of movies set in California, but most of them are live-action comedies like the Parent Trap that don't readily lend themselves to theme park attractions.)

That is the biggest difference(another one is the addition of a Western River attraction in Frontierland, and a few other very minor tweaks here and there).

I go back and forth....one day I want to save/fix toontown the next I want to bulldoze it and build something altogether new

In my earlier version I did last August I kept Toontown but axed the Go-Coaster and the Treehouse in favor of an E ticket level attraction based on Mickey and the Beanstalk.......

Actually, in my mind, the Country Bear Mountain attraction would be something akin to Mr. Toad or Alice in Wonderland except maybe a little longer to allow for a song or two to invade your head......still a perfect alternative for kids who can't do Splash but better in that adults will want to ride too

It's heavy on the nostalgia, with only the newer THRILL attractions staying on.

No Pixie Hollow or Meet Mickey for the younger set, then?

Re: My Perfect not-too-distant future Disneyland Guide

Excellent ideas but I would still like to see a new nature train ride as well. I have pictured the Mary Poppins attraction as a show in an elaborate theater, with live singers and special effects. The same theater could also be used for a Peter Pan show since it is also set in London. There could also be an outdoor ride based on Mary Poppins where you ride carousel horses through it. I'd also like to see a major attraction based on WALL-E and an Inifinity time travel attraction, and possibly even the Chinatown street which was once proposed many years ago but never built. I would not want to lose the Primeval World dinosaurs though.

Not sure what you mean here.....what thrill attraction have I axed aside from the Go-Coaster?

No Pixie Hollow or Meet Mickey for the younger set, then?
Nope, but a newly re-built Fort Wilderness and a interactive Baker Street should help entertain the younger ones and Mickey et al should be met on chance encounters....much more magical if you ask me.

I know, I know, I love the Primeval World too but I feel like it is a strange way to go from Tomorrowland to Main St. USA......to me, a full scale recreation of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing ties TL to Main St. USA much better, especially if done with the right tear-jerking score.
