Have a good time at the resort (for me I'll be there in February). I've never gone in January but when we do go in the off season it's pretty great. You have light crowds up until 2 or 3 in the afternoon but the trade off is of course the ride refurbishments and the lack of Fantasmic and fireworks. But for the rides, last year all the big rides were open (the Matterhorn opened back up from refurbishment on our last day) and the wait times were fairly decent. If you look at the refurbishment / temporary closer schedule on Disney.com you can see which rides will be closed (I think Haunted Mansion and it's a small world will be closed due to the removal of their holiday overlays, but don't quote me I'm not 100% sure when they're taking them down) or you can checkout the Dateline Disney update. In any case good luck on your trip and have fun.

i was going to say it's not the worst idea, that's like just when all the christmas stuff is going down so all the rides with holiday stuff will be closed, but people should be going back to school/work so crowds wouldn't be all that bad
