Could Light Magic have worked today?

The reason I wonder.... Aside from the Youtube clips, I really have not seen much of Pixie Hollow, neither in the theme parks nor books, nor video releases. So being that I have NOT seen any of the theme park attractions based in this, my mind races to my Memories of the "look" that the Light Magic barges had.

That and in some of the youtube clips I watch, the background music sounds slightly celtic to my untrained ear.

I could also most see them pulling this off more successfully now, but with a Pixie Hollow theme.

I agree, but they would never do this because of the stigmatism attached to LM. It'd be really good now, though, without the scary masks or random weirdness...

It's only Jan 2 and we are already having this conversation again?

Light Magic was a disaster on so many different levels. It was not that any single idea was bad but together it created a messed up soup. Also the constant equipment failures did not help things.

Let it go people...... Let light magic go.....

Here's another thing to think about:Would you rather have Celebrate-- a Street Parade or Light Magic?

Yes because our standards have been lowered so much that at this point Disneyland guests will accept just about ANYTHING. Go ahead and throw C!ASP in 10 years ago and see the reaction. Its decline by degrees people...

I agree, if it came down to the two of them at least Light Magic was pretty enough to look at. I was actually at the opening of this and it was nightmare. The floats were huge and the crowds were so bad, you couldn't get anywhere.

Light Magic would have still opened to mixed reviews today. The pixies would still be creepy, the story still wouldn't make sense, and it still wouldn't be the night parade everyone wants.

It would still be damn cool though.

Does anyone know if the Fiber Optic effects in the windows on MainStreet used in that parade are still there today?

I would think they would be damaged beyond repair, after sitting there for twelve years dealing with repainting and building refurbishments and whatnot. I was hoping they would have reused them for the Tinker Bell sequence in Remember, but I bet they were too damaged to be used.

This post describes Light Magic better than I could:
There was no light. There was no magic.

You can dream your dreams forever... but where does that really get you? According to Disney's first street-tacular, it gets you to riverdance with the scariest pixies I've ever come in contact with (and I say that with the most respect since a longtime friend was one of them)...

But ultimately, it wasn't the pixies that made this show "FAIRY" BAD. It was the concept itself.

Line people up on a parade route.... and then DON'T give them a parade. Instead, give them a big dark gloomy forest set piece that hardly lights up at all. Put the annoying song on repeat, have characters run around and that was your show.

"With the acquisition of Marvel and now of Lucasfilm,
Disney may have finally found the grail. You don't need
imagination or art. All you need is a brand."

Maybe. Because then all the C!ASP haters would have a "proper parade" on Main Street.

I'll choose no "parade" at all, if those are the only two options. I still have a CD press kit from Light Magic that I come across every now and then, I just laugh every time I see it. Disney should have just dumped the money spent on that into the Pacific .... Would have made for a better show.
