Based On World Of Color Preview Video, Which Elements Sound Most Intriguing?

Spring 2010 cannot come quickly enough! Disney's World of Color, I feel, will be one huge transitional experience that should prove to be just as groundbreaking as Fantasmic! The 600 fountains in the show are bound to more than rival the Bellagio Fountains.

The show will start right out emotionally tugging at heart strings with the original opening to the Wonderful World of Color TV series. "Storylines based on color" will be woven together... along with CG and traditional 2-D animated sequences. The mood will range from spirited to dark. Yet, I can't help but believe that it will constantly overflow with excitement. And "every fountain in the show has it's own LED light source."

Some of you may be already familiar with the elements of the show that have been publicized. If so, I urge you to indulge us with the elements that you find most intriquing. A YouTube video (presented in three parts) of the previously published Disney preview is included here. It is intended for those that are not familiar with what all will be incorporated into this extravaganza.. and for those that desire to brush up...

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfyoqR1lX_Y"]YouTube - Disney's World of Color Preview - Steven Davison - Part 1[/ame]

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XN1mJ0drBs4&NR=1"]YouTube - Disney's World of Color Preview - Steven Davison - Part 2[/ame]

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyLqLms0YcY&NR=1"]YouTube - Disney's World of Color Preview - Steven Davison - Part 3[/ame]

The Disney films that and music that will be repesented in the spectacle (highlighted in the preview) are Aladdin (A Whole New World), Pocahontas (Just Around The River Bend, Colors In the Wind), Little Mermaid (Part of Your World, Under the Sea), Enchanted, Finding Nemo, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Alice In Wonderland, Fantasia, WALL-E, Toy Story, UP, Lion King, Cars; and the cartoon that popularized the animation industry... Steamboat Willie.

There will likely be other films represented that either were not mentioned in the preview, or else ones that I have missed. An interesting factoid is that new animation will be used in conjuction with familiar film scenes, and some of the music will be newly scored compositions. Disney intends to bring back memories, plus foster fresh new ones.

    A poll is UP.

In the meantime, I encourage you to share your thoughts. The Spectrum Song is a tune that I remain hopeful will be included in the pagentry. Here's the voice of Paul Frees as Professor Ludwig Von Drake singing a lively version of the song...

All of the above! But I chose 3 from the list:

-20k digital projectors that shoot on mist water screens, & paint effects in sky.

-382' projection surface. MEE fog covering world around you.

-Multiplay to project effects in front of other effects.

Geez I can't wait for this show to open!!!

I'm really looking forward to the whole "river flowing toward the audience" concept and Pocahontas on that river.

I also am in full awe of them using Hellfire in Esmeralda's segment. *bows*

Also, nice choice of the Spectrum Song. Ludwig is one of my favorite Disney characters It'd be perfect for them to have this song ang the Green with Envy Blues in the preshow when the audience is waiting.

This all looks very impressive. What I like most about this newly designed show is that they are including many characters that are not included in some of the DLR fun. Of course I was really thrilled to find out that Chernabog was included, he is just so awesome. I am going opening day for certain!!!!

WoC offers an inticing innovative media mix of technology, royaldisneyfan. The projection surface being comparable to a football stadium could serve to make this show "the Superbowl of animation". The surrounding fog should serve to keep the audience totally imersed in fantasy.. much the same as does Disneyland's berm. The digital projection of colorful imagery in the sky (such as Aladdin and Jasmine on their magic carpet, and Carl in his big balloon attached house) should be mind blowing. Can't wait to see the multiplay effects!

Your board name is awesome, OnceUponAdream. It will definitely be fresher than F!... might prove to be more popular, too. Fantasmic, nevertheless, will forever remain a masterpiece achievement in outdoor entertainment.

Re: Based On World Of Color Preview Video, Which Elements Sound Most Intriguing?

I'm excited about the entire show - I just might love it all. For those who are curious, here is the summary of the show based on what we know so far. I originally posted this in the DCA tracker thread.

    World of Color -Show Overview

(warning: long post ahead and major spoilers!)

    ---

Here's something I put together last night -- it's nothing we don't already know, just an organized list that provides an overview of the show with brief scene descriptions. This is the basic layout of the different segments as described by Steven Davison. As he already mentioned, this is the initial roadmap for the show and some segments are subject to change once the actual show opens.

    Opening
    I. The Magical Light
    - Show starts in the audience, sweeps out into the lagoon and enchants the water, making it sparkle.
    - Lasers appear; Out of the mist comes the magical light.
    - "The Wonderful World of Color" theme song.

II. Tinker Bell Enchants Walt Disney's Words
    - "Every Child Is Blessed With A Vivid Imagination" - Walt Disney
    - The letter "D" becomes Little Squirt, who makes his first appearance as a little orange fountain.

The Colors of Earth, Sea, Sky
    I. The Magical Forest, featuring the Spring Sprite.
    - The Spring Sprite flies through the lagoon and enchants the water, creating beautiful trees and flowers.
    - She unveils the 400-foot wall of water.

    II. River Bend/ Pocahontas
    - River made of fountains flows towards the audience
    - Segment transitions into "Just Around the River Bend" and "Colors of the Wind"
    - Ends with water butterflies and the tunnel of light.

    Color in the Storm
    I. April Showers
    - Heimlich appears and greets the audience, popping up from behind a leaf.
    - The Old Mill emerges in the middle of the rain shower, which then becomes a full-color Storm/Lightning display.

    Colors of Wonderland
    A Technicolor Wonderland!
    - Falling Alice lands in Wonderland and meets the White Rabbit, who is done as a white fountain racing across the lagoon.
    - The White Rabbit's clock explodes, the numbers fly up against the back wall of water.
    - Transition into Card March and Flower Garden segments.
    - Cheshire Cat appears and disappears; this is followed by the fountains playing pong with his head.
    - Alice's world is swept away by a wave.

    Colors of the Sea
    I - The Little Mermaid:
    - A wave made out of lasers takes us down into the ocean, into the world of the Little Mermaid. "Part of Your World".
    - Projection domes first appear, rising out of the water as giant jellyfish.
    - "Under the Sea", The fountains dance, Little Squirt guides the way as they all do a conga line.

II . The World of Crush/Finding Nemo
    - A big wave brings Crush into view; he takes us surfing, the fountains make the curve of the EAC.
    - As Crush splashes out, Marlon and Dory appear - they encounter and talk to a giant whale made entirely out of fountains.

    Sailing Through The Stars
    - Dory calls the whales. The whales come splashing up, rising from the water and flying out towards the sky; they sail off into the stars.
    - The projection domes appear again and transform into planets; LED lights take on a sparkle tone as the lagoon turns into a sea of stars.

    Colors of the Universe
    I. The World of Wall-e and Eve
    - Diana shoots her arrow across the sky, the comet becomes Eve.
    - Wall-E and Eve, "Define Dancing".
(Details about this scene were kept secret by Steven, but he described it as a "sumptuous dream in color in the stars".)

    II. Infinity and Beyond
    - We end up in Andy's room, we see Buzz and Woody on the bed; they argue over whether or not Buzz can fly..
    - Buzz flies! and becomes a giant ribbon of water and laser interaction; all the fountains rise up into the sky, with the little green aliens making an appearance as the scene wraps up.
    - Carl shows up in his house, they float up into the sky.

    III. Aladdin And Jasmine
    - As the scene transitions into the sky, we see Aladdin and Jasmine appear out of the clouds. "A Whole New World".
    - They sail through the clouds on the magic carpet, the fountains perform a water ballet beneath them.
    - They fly off into the full moon.

    Color of Fears
    I. A Medley of Villains
    - Dr. Facilier appears as the full moon begins to get eclipsed.
    - Esmeralda emerges as a living piece of fire and then becomes animation as we enter the Hellfire segment.
    - The Firebird from Fantasia appears and it is created out of fire and water.
    - A drum sequence leads into the Chernabog scene. (not too many details here either, all we know is it will feature a lot of fire!)
    - The fire stops, the mist goes from red to green as Scars makes his first appearance. Scar takes us into the next big segment of the show, The Water Stampede.

    Fears to Tears
    I. The Magical Auroras
    - After the stampede and Mufasa's death, we see Dumbo, Bambi, and Simba appear with their families. The aurora borealis lights shine in the background.

    II. Transformation
    - Belle says, “I love you”, the Beast rises and transforms.
    - "So Close" medley from Enchanted plays, as Sleeping Beauty awakens. Snow White is kissed and is awakened.
    - All the transformations explode and become the Million Points of Light.

    Finale
    I. The Kaleidoscope of Color
    - All the colorful worlds appear all together and they join into a bright and colorful kaleidoscope finale.
    - Tinkerbell once again enchants the words, "If you can dream it, you can do it." - Walt Disney
    - This leads into the last finale scene which, at this point, hasn't been revealed yet.
    - The fountains take their final bow.

After the show, an encore piece will follow.

    ---

The End! Let me know if I missed anything or if you think anything should be added/removed.

Those that made the decisions to include several of the underutilized characters along with the most popular are both intelligent and warm hearted. Chernabog is indeed an incredible representative of the dark side. Disney knows how to work sinister evil villians into it's storylines in such a way that keeps the audience on edge, and makes people giddy with relief when good overcomes all.. with beauty and creativity triumphant. This, Feathereaper, makes it's stories and characters fully demensional.

Good for you! Even if you had watched all three preview video segments, they are still holding back a lot of details. We have lots of surprises to look forward to.

OH, and since when was Chernabog on top of MFF?!?! Did I miss something?
The river flowing toward the audience is actually the element that I am most anticipating. Pocahontas plays a big role in the show as a whole. It's about time that she receive notable attention in the parks. The Hellfire and Esmeralda segment is another wise use of cool but underutilized characters.

Glad that you enjoy the Spectrum Song as much as I do, Scott. Thanx big time for posting the Green With Envy Blues vid. That's a great musical piece, and would be perfect for the WoC color theme. Von Drake has left the building! hee hee

BTW.. Chernabog had it written into his contract that part of his compensation for appearing in World of Color is a permanent Annual Pass. Mickey's Fun Wheel is one of his favorite rides.

Fantastic post, nonob! Thanks so much for providing the vid of the D23 Expo.. and for the entire WoC show description from MasterGracy's outstanding DCA makeover tracker.

I very much look forward to the different manisfestations of Little Squirt (the symbolic reincarnation of Walt's inspiring creative spirit) as he mirthfully frolicks about while magically brightening and enlightening the entire world.. a world of "color, romance, music and dance!"
