Re: Disneyland Map Poster
They do sell the big maps in the shops. They are folded, however. The last one I saw was in the gift shop of the Paradise Pier Hotel. I don't know if they sell any in the tubes so the fold problem in eliminated...
Re: Disneyland Map Poster
You could probably iron out the folds.
Seriously!
Re: Disneyland Map Poster
They had the folded ones at a lot of the places around, I asked if there was a way to pay more and special order a one that was not folded and they said, nope. I've never tried ironing the folds out but my mom told me to lay it out in the bathroom and steam it (close up the bathroom door and put the shower on super hot) for about 15 minutes. I don't know if that works because I didn't try it yet. Also, maybe ask at a photo processing studio, maybe they have a trick. I took a photo that was from the 40's, it was rolled up and the photo was cracking, and they did something that salvaged the original as well as made touched up copies, they might have some advice.
Re: Disneyland Map Poster
I went ahead and framed up the large folded one I got for the 50th. It looks pretty nice and over time the creases become less noticeable.
Re: Disneyland Map Poster
We got one this trip, I didn't know about them and we went for the 50th, do you think there is still a way to get a new one from the 50th? Also, I found one in my moms garage from 1980 when she took my brother and sister!!
Re: Disneyland Map Poster
I have 5 of the poster sized maps from 1958, 1964, 1978, 2001 and 2005. All of which were folded and creased. My 1978 and 2005 were both dry mounted and framed, the others are stored rolled and in a tube. The dry mounting took out most of the creases/folds to the point that they are hardly visible unless you look for them. Finding a good framer is also a good idea.
Re: Disneyland Map Poster
Not to sound dumb, but what is dry mounted mean? Like how it that done?

I'm terrified of ebay, lol!!!
Re: Disneyland Map Poster
The poster is adhered to a type of foam board. My '78 map was dry mounted for a year or two before it was framed. So it framing and dry mounting doesn't need to go hand and hand. Dry mounting is perminate.
Re: Disneyland Map Poster
How big are these maps may I ask?
Re: Disneyland Map Poster
Ok, I did a project once where I did some photo's and shredded the edges and glued it to some dark stained wood, then I used a wood seal glaze, came out awesome!!!
Anyway, so that's kind of what I thought, but wanted to be sure!!
Re: Disneyland Map Poster
I'm not sure about the ironing... it seems likely but easy to have a few problems to me...
I would probably try and physically smooth out the folds first (butter knife and such) then if it's not quite as clean as you like then try steaming out as has been mentioned (however it would take some time depending on the size of your bathroom)
good luck

a light damp towel w/ the iron would hurt it?
hmmmm
I'd be more scared of a knife hurting it
