With a name like Western River Expedition, (So long as it held somewhat true to Marc Davis' concept) I would expect two things:
    1. To be in the West
    2. To be in a River (which would therefore require a flume)

Re: Western River Expedition Ride System

I voted flume a la Pirates of the Caribbean. I'm looking at some concept art that was done back in the 1960's for the Thunder Mesa complex. What a neat mountain/backdrop this could make for Frontierland beyond the berm (where TriCircle D is) with the bulk of the attraction in a large new show building. The flume could be a feeder for the Rivers of America. An expansive queue could be disguised into a large scale western town where the Festival Arena currently sits... blacksmith, saloon, bank, jail, prospectors assay office, town hall. A mock depot for the Disneyland Railroad will anchor the township to the north. A spur line off the DLRR could lead to a engine shed, where guests can explore replicas of classic passenger trains (or even recreations of the original DLRR cars). In a nod to Main Street, horse-drawn Conestoga Wagons transport guests from Thunder Mesa to an area near the Frontierland Riverboat Landing.
As for the feature attraction, it will be based on the original concept for the WRE, i.e. a sort of "Cowboys of the Caribbean" idea. Guests will board keel-boat style flume vehicles loaded with provisions, and journey down the river to deliver these goods to the pioneers down stream. Along the way, they will encounter bandits and robbers and find themselves in the middle of a classic wild west shootout. A thunderstorm causes the river to swell, and soon soon the boats are cascading down rapids into the uncharted territories. The boats soon reach their destination, and guests disembark.

I voted other, hoping they make it into a spinner such as Dumbo or AO.

In all seriousness though ti only makes sense to make it a flume.
