Re: Disneyland to close early due to heavy rains

I was at Disneyland Monday from about noon until 4. I can verify that Disneyland and Downtown Disney was not built for heavy rain (didn't visit DCA). the water doesn't drain very well, big puddles everywhere. my shoes were soaked within a few feet of leaving the restaurant where we had lunch. at the Downtown Disney parking lot the water at the curbs was almost up to the sidewalk. the sidewalk handicap ramps were completely flooded.

one other thing that I noticed. the design of the new monorail windows did not account for rain. there is no water seal at the top of the window when the half slider is closed.

My daughter was excited that they announced a tornado warning today in her class. We're about 10 miles East of the park.

Now THAT would be something to see. Could you imagine a tornado at Disneyland?

No early close today, and the park was in that rare glorious form with what felt like 1000-2000 guests tonight. What a perfect after work treat it was! Made it on Space, Matterhorn, Thunder, Mansion, Toad, and the Train all in about an hour. LOVE.

Re: Disneyland to close early due to heavy rains

After the deluge today, I'm sad to say I actually cancelled our plans to head to DL tomorrow. This makes me sad.

Up here in Simi Valley we had some weather problems too, a semi-truck jumped the center barrier on the 118, we have neighborhood flooding and the arroyo looks high and angry. I really didn't want to face the nightmare traffic if it's worse tomorrow as predicted, and I tend to be a little protective of my son's health and don't want him to end up soaked and walking around DL.

Well, the park does close at 8PM until Friday so they can't possibly close any earlier than 8PM.

    A 10AM-8PM is tolerable because it's only 11 hours.

Man I wish I could be there! An empty park is like a special gift!

I was going to go tonight but some idiot truck driver flipped over on the 91 and blocked the whole freeway for several hours... so I wouldn't have made it home in time.

Earlier was scary, watched the weather channel til it past. Checked the wait times on that new application and decided to head to the park. It was wonderful, clear sky and nobody was there. 5 minutes for everything we did. Finally played the pier games and one three stuffed animals and for giggles me and my friend bought lightsabers. So relaxing after the storm.

Re: Disneyland to close early due to heavy rains

Just being cautious but I called Disneyland today which was a nightmare! The guest relations lady told me that if conditions are "not favroable" tommorow park officials might give the go ahead to close early. She told me that there are keeping a close wacth what the National Weather Service says. According to the NWS forecast rain should be moving in this morning and conditions could get ugly starting around noon. Also Main Street flooded to the curb yesterday @DLtoday twitter account has a great picture of the mess.
    I'm back and now what!

Re: Disneyland to close early due to heavy rains

I remember entering the men's restroom to the right of the DCA entrance a couple of years ago on a rainy day. The tile floors were extremely slippery, worse than ice, and they had not yet put down any of those portable carpets with rubber backing. I tiptoed into the restroom, and upon reaching the half way point, my feet flew out from under me and I was on my back in under a second. A couple of other guys helped me up but one fell in the process. I turned to help him up but found myself on the floor again lying beside him. We started laughing hysterically and he asked me "Come here often?". I told him that I had never noticed the beauty of the ceiling before and was suddenly being doted on by the assigned custodian. He apologized profusely and said that they were closing that restroom until the rugs could be brought in to cover the floor. Neither of us were hurt but it is a serious situation for someone who isn't as "bouncy" as we were. It's a funny memory but it could have been much worse. I always check for those portable carpets now before entering that restroom on wet days.

^Yikes, sounds like water is quite the problem for Disney.
