As a big Giacchino fan...I actually disagree. I think his style(s) would be totally wrong for an attraction like Soarin' Over ________. My preference would be Jerry Goldsmith's son, Joel. He collaborated with Jerry for one of the Star Trek films and has done some composing of his own - I would think he'd be right the man to adapt and add to the score.

Then again, if they could bring John Williams out of semi-retirement to write an all-original score, I'd probably have a joy-induced heart attack.

Looking forward to the whole Soarin' Over the World concept. It can replace Soarin' CA, it'll be time by then. Fingers crossed for better video quality, maybe upgraded surround sound and perhaps 3d? anyone? anyone? hehe

The wait times would certainly help to justify such a change but I think that if Disney decided to break ground on a new show building it would be there to support the existing theatres and thus would also show the newer version.

If Disney does nothing to add more theatres then realistically you're looking at 2-3 hr wait times given the fact that by then DCA park attendance will have tripled due to the revitalized interest in the park.

Good point, maybe they should add two more screens along side the ones they have now instead of just one off the back.

While I do love Soarin' Over California (the first attraction I ever visited at any Disney park), I don't think it's worn out it's welcome. Sure, Disney could easily do a new version of the film, but the lines are always long. We almost always get a FastPass to ride. It's one of the busier attractions in the park. I think the wise thing for Disney to do would be to let it continue for some time (even though I and many others would obviously love a new experience) and then after the lines start to disappear, bring in Soarin' Over America. Yes, America. Why move on to the world when Disney can milk visiting the US for all it's worth and then see the world? By doing this, the Soarin' attraction could go on for years and years while always keeping things fresh. Then one day, perhaps we can soar through the solar system, the Milky Way, or the universe.

Sad news to me. Goldsmith was a modern composer with a genious for being able to evoke emotion like no other.

Superb idea! It would be honoring Jerry Goldsmith to allow his son to compose the score for Soarin' Over The World. His son's collaborateive work with him on Star Trek (in conjunction with the son's independent work) demonstrates to me that he has some talent. All of the music in Star Trek evokes emotion relative to the events taking place, while keeping the audience captivated. Young Goldsmith obviously has his dad's approval.

How about a young Goldsmith and Williams' collaborative (if Williams would "re-compose" himself to do so)?! We just want you to experience a joy overload...minus the heart attack, Data. It's going to be a killer ride... in the good sense.

Sorin' already has two theaters. They could easily show a different film in each theater if they wished to do so.

I'm not a huge fan of the current "California" film. The gimmick of the ride is getting old. They need to tell a story and try to hide the machinery above the seats when you board. Some sort of flyaway ceiling and barn doors in front of the screen would give a much better sense of actually taking flight.

I would seriously miss Soarin' Over California. The ride is extremely repeatable... especially among those that have or take the opportunity to ride each week or month. Agree that it would be more of an immersive experience if props were used to hide the screen. Excellent idea!

I agree. And make it random too. Both theaters can both show Soarin over CA and Soarin over the world. It would encourage repeat visits.

Some people would like to be surprised at random as to which ride experience they do. Regardless of the fact that this would be technologically posible, most would likely want to know in advance.

If only the current building is to be used to house both versions of the Soarin' ride, then the use of one theater for each film is the only practical way that each could operate. This would be doable (even if the lines were much longer for the new upgraded experience). If possible, I'd rather see a new second building for Soarin' Over the World. This would be a way to prepare for future Soarin' ride theme experiences, for which the theaters could be split up as you have suggested.

This makes sense. I wonder how difficult it is to change the motion sequence in the seats. It seems it could be Soarin' over the World for a year and THEN bring in seperating both theaters. That way you wouldn't have to have a 2 hour wait for the world and a 15 minute wait for California.

With "Soarin' Over the World" the park can FINALLY ditch the "California" theme (and this may be why they are doing this). It's the ONLY ride in the park that can't currently be un-themed to California unless they just go the EPCOT route and call it "Soarin'". The rest of the attractions can have a name change (Screamin', etc).

I would like them to keep the existing film in some way, but for GOD SAKES, make it digital. The film is absolutely showing it's age.

I think personally they should keep it "Soarin Over California." Make it Soarin over the world, and it doesn't fit the California theme. I will give it a chance, but not a good idea. Soarin' should be a one-of-a-kind attraction, and I felt it was weird to bring it to Epcot. A new ride film based on California is fine, but this would not be a good idea.

I think they should use Soarin' Over the World for Epcot as already suggested and possibly other Disney parks. As for DCA, I say keep the original film running but have it be remastered and digitally formatted. In addition they should add a second film over California that highlights the lands represented in the park and a more historical look at the state. They could use some computer animation blended into real film to visualize the state's past or some in park references (like you takeoff and as you begin the flight you pass by Grizzly Peak that is now sitting in a vast forest not just a real shot of it with Cars Land or Paradise Pier in the background - make it seem like a real place)

It must be really hard to shoot videos for the film. I think some locations won't allow filming.
I'm not sure but I heard Disney illegally flew a plane over downtown la cus u can't have a plane around buildings. and u can tell cus the camera is shaky and fast cus it was only shot once. but idk if this is true.

What Soarin Over California needs is a good overhaul and enhancements to the queue. The film in the projector needs to be totally replaced, it was worn out a long time ago. Get some Imax specialists to take a look at their system and upgrade it.

When it comes to music, if anybody, I do think Thomas Newman (who did Finding Nemo) should re-record the music for Soarin. His score from Nemo was a mix of somber, adventure, and exploration.

Nah, Newman doesn't seem to have the broad, sweeping sensibilities that a Soarin' project would require. From what I've heard, his music more intimate, less expansively iconic. For Goldsmith, achieving the right sound for this sort of project was second nature. (Williams, too, at least in years past.) Debney certainly understands how to orchestrate and write big, and he's very good at adapting existing material, which is why he would get my vote.

If I wanted to see the attraction soar over anything other than California in a park whose strongest source of thematic identity is still California, that is.
