What we have here are, yes, fountains! Simba's notes are, as usual regarding this stuff, correct - look close, especially at the one behind the arbor - you'll need the high-res copy to see it: each unit has a lower LED ring, a Lumen360 type, surrounding a brass nozzle. These are straight, vertical smooth-bore nozzles. On top is a bronze grille plate, with a central hole and a radiating-spoke outer zone. The black ring in the planter makes sense now; these will definitely produce more or less overspray, and that barrier will keep the soil from eroding too quickly from this overspray. Look at the Fountain-In-A-Can page to see an example of the basic effect of a smooth-bore nozzle. The units in the planters have components slightly similar to Fountain-In-A-Can, but they're larger units.

So...yes. First, confirmation on LEDs in the globes... Second, there are now fountains throughout the viewing area. Not only will colored light flow out into the area, but jets of brightly-illuminated water will rise out of the planters!

...did I already stress how incredible I know this is going to be? Those countless people who have not been following the construction and have no idea what's coming are going to be absolutely floored by this show. Every last bit of it is going to be jaw-dropping, mind-blowing Disney-style magic, and I think this'll be the boost for DCA, with improvements for everything else flowing out from this epicenter.

Only downside to this post: I can't tell which Fountain-In-A-Can nozzles are in use in the play fountain. I don't know the product intimately; I don't know how many of which effects can fit together into a single pod. They've already been IDed as having fan and vertical jet effects, and any or all may have mist, but the rest could be any number of combined effects. Time will tell.
Incredible, and exciting! Thanks Jonas and simba!

Let's just hope your not sitting in the viewing area on a windy day. I have a feeling the fountains in the VA will be one of those to good to be true effects that gets lost over time. Hopefully not.

If they're smart, and it's windy, they would just not incorporate the fountains. Just like on some nights they don't use the falling acrobats on the Columbia. This show seems incredibly versatile, so I'd think they just wouldn't them on a breezy Santa Ana night.

It could also depend on if it is Summer or Winter. I don't think people would mind a bit of water during the hot summer nights in SoCal LOL. But I agree that this type show is quite versatile and that Disney is conscious of the effects of water and weather.
After reading about the fountains in the viewing area, I am beginning to think the 2nd tier may be the spot to view the show from so you would be fully engulfed in the show.

Do you think the fountains in the viewing area will be powered by a fresh water source versus recycled water from the lagoon? Also, it appears that each nozzle has it's own valve as a means of control.

It should have it's own water supply. I wouldn't want to get wet by dyed water.

Pardon me if this has been addressed already, but does it seem a bit odd to anybody else that they decided to put a trellis right in the middle of the viewing area? Won't that block the views of (a.) some of the people standing under it and (b.) anybody standing in the tier behind it?? Seems strange if you ask me.

It depends on how they maintain whatever grows on it. They could use it to have shade overhead, but not let it grow down the sides so as not to block views while still providing some shade. Guess we're going to have to wait and see on them.

Mycroft, LOVE your new signature. You're wife is beautiful!

As for the water being fresh or recycled...I would rather it be recycled..plus, I think Disney would try to conserve by using recycled water. They dye the Rivers of America and when you ride the Canoes you get wet by that water...no difference I would think.

The DisneyParks Blog has a video clip about how Pixar will be incorporated into World of Color and it shows testing footage from February 2010.

LOL, thank you. I'm quite partial to her beauty and she made the sig for me too.

I can see them just doing regular fountains in the viewing area that shoot straight up and are lit by LED. I can also see them being laminar flow too. There are a lot of possibilities here and I'm really curious to see it all in action.
