Dig-"E" Ticket

The other night I was talking with my pops about the old ticket system and realised something. In the long run it is a better idea than the system we have now! How so? Because you pay for what you WANT as far as rides go. Wereas the cost of a ticket now says you paid to ride it all even if you dont want to ride anything. So I cooked up a new way for tickets to work called Dig-"E" tickets. Heres how it works, when you get to buying a ticket these are the choices (note this is for per day per park visits only aps and park hoppers will be explaind soon)
first choice park entry allone no rides, you get a paper ticket admiting entry sugested price, $35.00 kids $40.00 adults.
Second choice Disney day pass comes with a souveneer plastic credit card type ticket that is loaded with 10 A 10 B 9 C 8 D and 7 E tickets on The card.
Sugested price, 50 kids 60 adult.
Third choice. Magic day unlimited pass for the entire day you may ride as many rides as you can in a day!

How it works. The basic entry card is for those who dont plan on riding much maybe one or two must rides but are mostly there to watch the kids shop or soak up the environment. However they may get a single ticket or upvrade to a dig-"E" ticket at one of 4 in park ticket booths. With any dig-"E" ticket be it bought to begin with or later on is refillable with as many of whatever kind or number of certian tickets you feal like paying or if you dont care to vet a dig-"E" ticket you can get a paper ticket marked A through E either one at a time or in a book if you realy want it.
To use the Dig-"E" Ticket simply go up to the ride you want to ride and you will find a gate with an atendent watching simply go to the gate swipe your card and when the gate opens go in. The gate shuts behind you and its done. For paper tickets older guests will be fine but for younger ones who dont really know what paper is dont panic when you cant scan or slide it because it wont do it. Simply give the atendent the paper withe the proper letter on it that matches the sign on the booth and go inside whe. The cast member opens the gate with a buton.
Lastly we come to the all day ride pass. It works on the same principal as the other Dig-"E" card only it dosent run out untill the next operating day. The card itself has your photo on it so only you can use it so no sharing with your buds.

With multi day visuters or those with park hoppers they automaticly get unlimeted rides untill the day they leave.

Now for the APs
the choices are 2 now. A year of coming in and buying a through e tickets at will and putting them on your ap card or get a year ap with all the rides you can handle in a year.
This is my idea on how to make disneyland cheaper for some and more lucritive a buisness all at once.
Oh I almost forgot the regular refillable souveneer tickets never go bad IE if you leave and there is a few tickets in the card bring it back with you next time and move them to a new card or just use the old card up.
This idea is far from perfect I know but I want to know what you think or bow you wouls improve this idea. Thank you!

Yes I agree, the general admission price should be reduced and then sell tickets to the most popular attractions. Or you could buy a ticket book with one ticket for each of those. The system they have now is a bit unfair to people who don't go on that many attractions. And just make the annual passes be for general admission only and offer a super premium pass that includes admission and all attractions. I don't really think an offer that includes 10 A, 10 B, 9 C, 8 D and 7 E tickets would do well. I remember we always had some A and B tickets left, so I would cut down on the number of A and B tickets drastically, or just make those attractions free. Castle Park in Riverside offers an unlimited wristband, but there is an extra charge for a couple of newer attractions, such as the haunted house dark ride where you shoot at targets and get points, and nobody seems to have a problem with paying extra for that. So I think tickets for some attractions (the D and E level ones) would be a good idea.

I'd drop your general admission charge even lower (maybe to $25), and do away with the AP option. I'd rather not have AP buyers flooding the "no additional charge" entertainment choices provided daily at some further discounted admission.

I know the old timers love to wax philosophical on the old ticket days, but this would be an absolute disaster. The LAST thing Disneyland needs is more people getting in cheaply to soak up the atmosphere--the place is crowded enough as it is! If anything, it needs to be priced higher (at least for the APs!). Yes, people have sentimental memories about tickets, but I think the average guest would consider it a colossal inconvenience to keep track of what you've purchased & what you've been on, not to mention buying more tickets, etc.

Two things that come to mind:

1) I remember reading that the average rides per day is targeted at about 10. Hence; your tickets counts are way out of whack.

2) The cost to run all of the shows and parades is very high. A ticket based model would reduce the overall daily income and encourage further cut corners on the entertainment front.

In general, anything that would increase attendance would continue to degrade the vaunted atmosphere we would all like to enjoy more of. I agree with the price hikes on APs (as mentioned by AGD) even though I am a nor cal native that buys the Deluxe AP for my family every year. If I had to reduce my visit frequency in exchange for smaller crowds I would be OK with that.

You (and your Pops) are correct: The Old 'Ticket' System worked. Beautifully. For Years. You "paid" for the attractions that you wished to ride and enjoy, and you saved your tickets (and learned to be a conscientous Consumer) by skipping the rides and attractions that you could do without. It was a Family Decision; what are we going to ride with our 2 B-Tickets that we have left? We only have one more C-ticket; Peter Pan or Mr. Toad's?! Planning your day - and deciding the night before which ticket was going to be used for which ride - was at least half of the fun!! My sisters and I used to dig out all of the un-used tickets that my mother kept in a drawer in the kitchen, we'd divvy them all up, and pour over a dog-eared map of the Park like we were studying the Zapruder film; you would have thought that we were planning a 6 week tour of Europe for every Girl Scout in North America! "We'll use a C-Ticket to ride Alice in Wonderland, then we'll ask Dad for icecream here :points to the map: then we'll eat our icecream in line for the Matterhorn - that's the second of our 4 E-tickets; we'll have to ride the Fantasyland side because Kathy will be with us and she won't go on the other side; then Mom will want to ride Its A Small World..."

And, we could always skip a treat and buy another coupon / ticket for just one more ride on the Matterhorn or the Submarine Voyage if we had to; little ticket kiosks were set up all over the Park. It MEANT more to us...

One used to be able to buy a "Shopping Pass" at Christmastime and - for a nominal fee - just come into the Park, enjoy the music and shows, and SHOP; if you wanted to buy a ticket to ride one ride (or a couple) they sold individual coupons for just this reason. Heaven.

I was a Cast Member in '82 when the Old System was phased out; I truly believe that it has not worked as well since.

Basically, your system sounds exactly like how things are run at the county fair. I'm not necessarily opposed to something like this at DL, but implementing it would take a long time. Ticket booths or kiosks need to pop up all over the place, a new computer network needs to be created and tested to perfection, extensive training with new protocol for CMs, and it will take a few years at least for the general public to really catch on.

Wait, I would have to pay $40.00 in order to enter the park and just stand around or shop!?!?! That's outrageous!!!! Everything you said sounded great, except the prices!!!

Well if it were up to me I would charge tickets for Space Mountain, Star Tours, Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, Matterhorn, Peter Pan, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise and Indiana Jones Adventure. And in DCA, Soarin' Over California, Grizzly River Run, Hollywood Tower of Terror, Toy Story Midway Mania and California Screamin'. That's 16 attractions and you could buy a ticket book with one ticket for each, and you could also buy individual attraction tickets. All the other attractions would be included with the general admission charge. As I recall there was generally one ticket booth in each land in the "old days." It wouldn't be that big of a deal to instruct cast members on how to collect a ticket. And I would get rid of Fast Pass completely. It only shifts the burden of waiting from some guests to others. I would also annex DCA to Disneyland and make it all Disneyland, with a new Monorail station and a Skyway between Tomorrowland and Carsland, or even a one-way Autopia between those 2 lands. And restore Tomorrowland to a state of glory, a new volcano ride north of Tomorrowland, restore Frontierland to a state of glory, consider the whole thing to be one park and there you have the world's best theme park.

I'm sure I'd be laughed right out of the boardroom and escorted out of the building. I can only think in terms of what could be and should be rather than the bottom line. But thanks for your vote!

Yah. I'd go back to the ticket book days in an instant. Unfortunately I don't think today's average guest won't understand it as easily as guests did over 30 years ago.

It really is the best way to control crowds and still make some money off of people who need to buy additional ride tickets.

One of DL's biggest problems is the revenue generated per guest metric. Caused, obviously, by you-know-what.
It makes large projects difficult to pass the ROI requirements of modern-day Disney Corp.

When I read the OP, it stated that there wouldn't be actual paper A-E tickets. A plastic card that can be loaded up and used up as the guest wants. That seems a lot more revenue positive than some idiotic, billion-dollar guest's-money-management system that has been rumored about here.

I'm not sure about making one big park...but connecting them without leaving the parks would be great! Also, the loadable card is great! Change the design for collectors each month, lower merch/food in congruence the tickets, and have an unlimited AP so no surcharge for rides (like $250/350) in addition to an AP where you need to buy rides.

The "One Big Park" idea would have made more sense over a period of 10-15 years. Adding more park to the south of Space Mountain, for example, and eventually filling up the parking lot with successful new Lands, while building the parking structure to replace parking lot space a little at a time as the park grows more proftitably.
