Current WDI Imagineer: "But we made great attractions like Pirates of the Carribean!!!"
Cast Member: "No, WED made Pirates of the Caribbean, you guys made things like 'Spare Park' [DCA]"
Specks and washed out blacks on this "new 70mm print"? Really? Wow. I'm speechless.
At this point watching it on Youtube (or Martin's Vids) is a better option. At least the quality of the picture might be better.

...but YouTube is not in 3D. That's like, the only thing keeping me going right now. I've never seen Captain EO in 3D, and that's about it for my excitement. Sad...
Please someone answer this one so that I can know whether or not the last of my hopes are completely dashed.
Did Disney seriously just leave that entire frame up there and crop out the top left corner of the movie? I mean, I know Disney has created this modus operandi of starting a project, shrugging their shoulders a quarter of the way through and walking away, but did they seriously leave that entire cropped corner up there?

And there were lines when we left. Okay guys here is the short version
Just got out of EO and here are the changes
- The preshow uses the same futuristic music from the 86 opening, a new kodak commercial and they screen the original trailer preshow.
- The glasses are Yellow, not the purple.
- Entering the theater there is no starfield that greets the visitors, just the logo on the screen.
- During the battle sequence the in theater laser effects are gon, but as EO approaches the canyon the Gimble that was built for HISTA gets involved and mimic the motion on screen.
- When EO is surrounded by the guards the seats move again
- Wind effects left over from HISTA are employed when fuzzball flies over the audience.
Overall the movie seems to hold up in a retro-chic kind of way. Although the effects hold up surprisingly well, the quality of the "New 70mm print" is lacking with specks, rough cuts and washed out blacks. It's still a fuin ride.. Pics coming soon
Did Tony or George get up on the theatre mic to do the inaugural intro spiel? How was that process carried out and did anyone special do it?
I think I only saw HISTA once (maybe twice) so I completely forgot how different the theater looks nowadays. I remember the real Captain EO theater had a relatively flat screen area that blended seamlessly into the rest of the front to enable the starfield. I don't remember all that lighting equipment being up there on the roof in the back. I wonder how a simple film switch (that they probably plucked from a YouTube video... "new" 70mm, lol!) took half a year to pull off. It seems like nothing has changed from HISTA except the video... even the *glasses* are the same.
I guess it's true, you can't please all the people all of the time. They brought back a 20 year old attraction for no other reason but for fan service. I'm going to wait while you re-read that.
Disney had no obligation to anybody to bring it back yet they did. It probably cost them a pretty penny just to be able to show it again. I'm sure George Lucas, Francis Ford Coppola, and the MJ estate are getting a hefty royalty fee for Disney bringing this back. I'm sure entirely retrofitting the theater was just too much of a cost for something that is ultimately going to be a placeholder for whatever they plan on doing next.

I was hoping they'd bring back the old blue 3d glasses they used when Captain Eo was there.
But it's Disney. Don't they have lasers and smoke shooting out their a**es?
...it disappears from view...how?! It's a cropped edge, so basically, yes, the image is cropped...great.The "crop" has no impact on the picture. It disappears from view, and you do not notice it once the film starts (if you've even noticed it in the first place).
EDIT: seriously, those who are complaining about the glasses are getting a bit ridiculous. You really thought Disney would make thousands of new glasses for this?! C'mon...
