Yesterday, they screened the official teaser trailer for TRON Legacy at cities around the world. In LA they had the director on hand to answer questions. That link is to the breakdown of the trailer and the QA session. One of the questions pertained to Disneyland:

When asked whether or not Disneyland would get a Flynn's Arcade, Kosinski smiled and said, "There are many things in the future. They are coming."

This isn't him saying Disneyland will get Flynn's arcade... but it IS him hinting that there will be something TRON related. The fact that he says "They are coming" makes it seem like they are more than just ideas, that they are actively in a design phase, possibly awaiting a green light and a budget. I expect more rumors to start leaking out of the company as more audiences start seeing this trailer (running with Alice this week) and especially after the full movie is screened for those lucky punks at Comic-Con this year. Once the suits can really start gauging audience support and reaction to it they'll start getting either cold feet or excited.

So there is always talk of Flynn's Arcade taking over in the Starcade, or some form of PM makeover... but what other ways could DL incorporate Tron into the park?

I really like the idea of a Tron E-Ticket. However I rather see the actual People Mover on the People Mover Track. I rather see it more compact and in the Innovations building only. This is certainly exciting news.

It's not a surprise to me that some "Tron" related attraction will come to Tomorrowland. It's in need of a renovation .. and needs new ideas to replace "TL:98" attractions. I believe both Tron and Wall-E are among 2 ideas ... plus, more than likely more to come.

I'm just hoping it's not an idea that has anything to do with the Peoplemover track. I want to see a "Peoplemover 2.0"

I don't see why the Peoplemover would ever come back. Why would they leave the track all this time if they were just going to end up putting the Peoplemover on it?

Clearly they are waiting for the right franchise to put up on those tracks. Tron may be it. If the movie does well at the box office.

Too many chefs in the kitchen!

There's plenty of bureaucracy, office-politics, and corporate tug-of-wars going on .... and thus .. dragging some projects on for far too long.

And I believe a Peoplemover replacement is one of them.

My opinion .. if they want to effectively showcase a Tron attraction .... the entire attraction needs to be contained within one showbuilding. Giving the imagineers the ability for controlled-lighting.

I've said this before - How do you do a Light Cycle attraction on the Peoplemover track in the daylight hours?!

Disney is about immersive attractions with highly themed (contained!) themed environments, right? Tron takes place within the cyber world of the computer. A Tron Light Cycle attraction is going to be far more effective .. and far more entertaining showing us The World of Tron. Just placing another thrill ride (Rocket Rods) for the sake another attempt at an open-air thrill ride in Tomorrowland is a routen idea!

Those overhead tracks served one cool premise that only some seem to not care .. And that's a leisurely and relaxing ride with a preview of Tomorrowland's attractions.

If they attempt it ... it will be low capacity .. just as Rocket Rods was. Because any fast thrill ride needs plenty of spacing between vehicles.

With these practical issues I'm trying to cover here ... I'm fairly confident imagineering has gone over this themselves .. and realize a Tron attraction belongs within a completely contained environment - AKA .. the ShowBuilding.

besides the idea I proposed in that thread, I'd love to see a possible lightcycle ride. Either incorporated on the PeopleMover Track (not the best option, but it'd be cool to really speed around TL like that, efficiently, and without breaking down like the RR predecessor). I'm not really sure where they could put a Tron attraction besides on the PM track, or the Starcade...
I don't think the Innoventions building would be good, because it's almost too big...but they could put one attraction on top, and the other on the bottom level....that could work....

there was a thread that talked about a Tron overlay to Space Mountain, and I really liked that idea, and would be cool with it if it was for like, only a month, and used to promote the new movie. But that's as far as it goes.

And I disagree that Innoventions is too large. Quite the opposite, I think. I believe their intentions is something with large capacity, where Innovention's space is too small .. and in order to make it fit .. they need to go OUTSIDE the berm... as well as within. You have to allow plenty of room for a queue, emergency access points in and out of the attraction. And god knows what other infrastructure is needed for what they have in mind.

I'm trying to use my imagination with what they would do. The imagery would be "fast" .. but the vehicle we are in ... is either stationary .. or moving slowly ... with a design that would make it pitch from one side to the other. Like a simulator. I understand the Spiderman attraction in Islands of Adventure is a hybrid type of a system that feels "fast" but is really not TRAVELING fast at all. Maybe some sort of a hybrid situation that combines several concepts into one. Like perhaps a hybrid Dark Ride/Simulator? Hybrid Roller Coaster/Dark Ride?

In the shelved TL:84 plan (back in 1984) ... Star Tours was originally envisioned to be a hybrid rollercoaster/dark ride. Maybe this time ... they'll attempt some sort of "hybrid" experience. For Tron? For Wall-E? Time will tell.

In fact, I don't think Innoventions is big enough and they should demolish it and design a new building that uses the space more efficiently. Then the PM can be brought back with a glimpse inside the massive new Tron E-ticket. So we could have a bit of nostalgia with something new as the PM could peer into the world of Tron again. I think an indoor LIM launched Lightcycle coaster using the motorcycle type seating like Knott's Pony Express ride and top notch special effects could be amazing.

I've ridden the Pony Express ... and I can tell you all .. that seating position was not the most comfortable position to hold for very long. Quite awkward. Disney would HAVE TO modify it.
