1st Trip Report - 2/27: Club 33, Rain, and Captain EO

My mom and I were at the DLR Saturday specifically to see Captain EO and enjoy a meal at Club 33 for what may be the last time in a while.

It was really raining and there weren't many people around:

    Most attractions were walk-on:

The first place we headed was Captain EO. I was expecting a bit of a wait, but the preshow area was only about halfway full. Thus, the first showing of the day was about 1/3 full (there were so few people, the CM working the show even made a joke about it). We then went on Splash Mountain, figuring I was already wet from the rain and had brought a change of clothes for that purpose. The CM put my mom and I in the two front seats and ushered a group of kids to the back. Needless to say, we got soaked.

On the way back to the hub, we ran into an adorable family of ducks hanging out in front of the castle:

The sun was just starting to come out (it didn't last):

The woodland creatures were glad to see the sun, if only for a moment:

Later on in Toontown, the rain began again, but not before Goofy had a chance to say hello:

Intermittent rain = no Teacups or Alice, but it does make for some nice people-free photos:

After wandering around trying to find a store that wasn't sold out of ponchos for what seemed like ages, we realized it was time to head to Club 33 for lunch. More pics to come later.

Nice photos. I like your cute photo of the woodland creature enjoying the temporary sun!

We saw those ducks the other day. There were 10 of them with their Mom. Fairy Godmother told us the day before there were 12 - circle of life I guess.

The park was empty due to the rain, of coarse Captain Eo didn't have a line. The theater has a very high capacity.

Re: 1st Trip Report - 2/27: Club 33, Rain, and Captain EO

It was time for lunch, so we headed over to that (in)famous doorway. Fortunately, it had started raining again so it wasn't being used as stroller parking (we almost always have to move at least one stroller just to ring the buzzer). We were a bit early, but we were glad to be in from the rain. The CM called up to see if our table was ready. It was, so she escorted us into the lift. I have a picture taken from inside, but the flash made it look like I took it standing inside a closet.

As we stepped off the lift, our server was waiting to take us to our table:

There were quite a few people in the main dining room, since it was 1:45. Lots of people were celebrating various milestones. During our meal, we heard Happy Birthday sung three times and a couple was celebrating their anniversary:

However, the private dining room was not being used:

After we were seated, I mentioned to the waiter that this might be our last time dining at the Club for a long time. He joked that we were in luck because it was the Club's last day too. They just hadn't told anyone they were closing down. He then regaled us with tales of the dark days of Eisner and told us a little about the Club (he's been there almost 30 years).

Then we had to decide on what to eat:

I had the chicken and my mom had the monk fish because they were the only two items on the menu we hadn't yet tried. We both ordered iced tea with appetizers (buffet-style; lobster, crab, shrimp, cream of asparagus soup, and various salads) and a glass of Dr. Loosen Riesling with the entree.

Before dessert, I headed out to take some pictures around the Club:

For dessert, we sampled the offerings at the buffet. I had a pot of Earl Grey tea and mom had a cappuccino. After our meal, we decided to buy some Club merchandise.

Then it was time to leave:

We lucked out and were given two free pens (the one used to signed the lunch bill and the one used to sign the merchandise bill).

Having had a most wonderful lunch, we reluctantly put our ponchos back on and headed back out into the rain:

    Over to DCA:

Once there, we checked out my two favorite things in DCA - Blue Sky Cellars and the Animation Building:

    We learned to draw Daisy:

We were the only ones here:

All in all, it was a pretty amazing day. No lines, very few people, cute animals, Club 33...could you ask for anything more? I hope you enjoyed my first trip report. I know I tend to get a little wordy, so I apologize. It's the English major in me.

EDIT: More Club 33 pics on page 2!

I did notice you're sitting in a Club 33 chair in your avatar. I'm jealous that you got to see Mickey while there.

Great TR report. I love the pictures. And I did not think it was too wordy at all. Just fine!!

Excellent pictures! I remember getting the Fresh Pasta Three by Three the last time I was there. I'm sorry it rained during your trip, but I hope you still had loads of fun.
