    water speed...

Does Disney speed up/slow down the flow of the river in a flume ride? Like when there is a long wait in line do they speed up the river in POTC so that they can accommodate more people? Same for Splash Mountain?

I was wondering about that after our December trip. We were there on a rainy day and it seemed like Splash Mountain was going pretty fast. I figured they might speed it up on colder days.

I know for a fact that IASW uses a current. There was a time when our boat completely stopped and started going backwards, then later continued to proceed down the flume.

Biggest cause of "slow ride" is the boarding and disembarking of guests. There are also safety issues at the attractions' drops. I'd rather have a continuously moving boat/log than one that catches up to quickly to the boat ahead.

if the water speed can be adjusted universally, i dont think this would be a problem.. how would a boat catch up to another if they're all moving at the same speed?

It takes a lot of power to harness water. The water may not necessarily be going faster, but there are factors that affect your boat like the weight of the people in the boat and how it's distributed. The water might flow a little faster or slower in different areas.

Some people have noticed Splash's current is faster than it used to be, though it could be related to the current fleet of logs being heavier than the old ones.

If there are more boats on the ride, the pumps would have a hard time pushing them so they might slow down. However that would affect the rides oppositely to what is being reported so I dunno.
