Coheteboy Does D23 Anniversary Party 03.10.2010

    Wednesday. 03.10.2010

I'm a D23 member. I didn't purchase tickets for this event for several reasons:

    a) It's a wednesday night. Driving from LA to OC after work in the middle of the week seemed like a chore. Granted I used to make that commute every day when I lived in OC, but now, I wasn't sure if I wanted to do that and THEN stay up really late to make the return drive.

    b) It's $65. Just $10 less than a full day ticket... and you only get Fantasyland. Hrmm. I know that the special guests were going and that was great. I know that there would be cupcakes and treats, but I remembered the Disneyland Birthday D23 party and those cupcakes were meh. (and having bought a few expensive things this year, $65 was not something I had laying around).

    c) None of my close friends wanted to do it.. not for $65. Of course, when I was sending updates about what was going on, they were all "OMG" "Lucky!" "How???" "I wish I could go!" Yah, isn't that always the case?

So how did I find myself at this exclusive D23 Party? Micechatter Juliemouse sent out a few messages saying that she has an extra ticket... and half off.

Hrrmmmm. $32 for a Disneyland private party. Now... that's something I can do!

I grabbed my camera and left the Pasadena area at 18:16 and got to Disneyland around 19:30. Not bad. I got some McD's drive thru first because I was starving and knew that the party was only going to be treats. I scarfed it down in the parking structure which was FREE for those coming in that late.

    Remember where you parked:

There was a long line to register and since Juliemouse was the one who purchased the ticket, transferring the guest ticket wasn't a problem.

How many times can you hear "What line is this for?" before going mad?

I didn't do a great job capturing moments of what I did or of the party itself. But hopefully these snap shots will somewhat show you how it all played out. Sorta.

20:45 they started letting people in. You got a purple wristband and as you were going in, regular guests were piling out. Everyone piled in front of the Sleeping Beauty Castle and Partners statue as a loudspeaker recording welcomed D23 members to Disneyland.

21:00 -- We listen to part of Walt's welcome speech and then we see some fireworks before we pile in through Sleeping Beauty Castle.

First order of business: PETER PAN'S FLIGHT! Ever see a line this short?

    TREATS TREATS TREATS.

When I second guessed the treats at this party, I was wrong. It wasn't just cupcakes. It was MiceCrispyTreats, Cupcakes, COOKIES (really big soft ones too), an this other stuff that I didn't gorge on.

Thes tables were all over Fantasyland

But man... it would be great if there was something to wash it down.

    ZOMG!

    Beer! Wine! Inside Disneyland!

I'll have 3 of the Amber and then go on...

That's an accident waiting to happen isn't it? It's like that one scene in problem child 2 (watch the video)

Sooooo, Fantasyland wasn't the only thing open! Astro Orbitor and Captain EO were running as well!

    Practically a walk-on.

Sat dead center... I'm still seeing double on the images though. I had to shush the rude Disney fans talking behind me. But man... love this movie.

    still more to come...

Looks great so far Dave. Can't beat the FL bar set-ups for oddest setting in DL, hopefully wine & beer product placement & sponsorships for Dumbo will not follow...

There was also one in front of Small World and another in front of Casey Jr and... well.. there were more bars than people wanting to drink in that short of a time.

Back to the party, it was a great opportunity for fans to see old characters come out (this was great but not as rare as I wanted them to go).

    WASSUP FOO

Tony Baxter became a character himself... signing autographs for fans. There were huge lines for all of this.

Maleficent was hiding by the Castle entrance

    Three little HUGE-A Pigs.

Nooo, you're not King Louie, you're a Country Bear!

The line for the Country Bears was humongous. They were relieved by the two Brother Bears and the line dispersed. HAHAA.

You can get your picture in this huge vehicle

And with the cart that Walt used to drive

Cinderella and her coach could be found by Small World (next to another Beer and Wine location)

    The new Small World sign

One thing that was a bummer was that the Matterhorn was closed. Everything else was available though with minimal wait (people wanted to meet characters and talent more).

Of course a trip to Fantasyland would be wasteful without a trip to Wonderland

Yah I know! The whole night I was scratching my head going "I'm sure there's more MC people here, I just know it!"

Funny too because we only had Fantasyland and Captain EO... I saw a ton of other people more frequently.

Re: Coheteboy Does D23 Anniversary Party 03.10.2010

    Ok final update...

    Bob Gurr is the man

Princess and the Frog stars Jennifer Cody (Charlotte) and Michael-Leon Wooley (Louis) having fun at Disneyland

    Kuzcochik cameo

    OM NOM NOM

    OLD HAG

And now it's time to go...

Didn't see as many characters as Ryan did but Mad Hatter and Alice hung around

    And the $65 gift:

In closing, this event was a LOT of fun. All the Cast Members were in great spirits, very friendly, and happy. There was plenty of treats to munch on but would have loved if a churro cart was at least made available.

Is this $65 fun? I would say maaaaybe not? But keeping the price high probably adds to the exclusivity of it all. I think $55 would be a good price but since I paid $32, it was definitely worth it.

For $65, I would like to see even more rare characters. Pinocchio is pretty common as is Alice and Mad Hatter and even the Brother Bears. I want to see Scrooge McDuck. The nephews. Robin Hood. etc etc

This is a great event though. D23 really done good.

    Thanks for reading!
