Cirque Du Soleil at the Disneyland Resort?

I think it would be really cool if Cirque Du Soleil and Disney can have a talk about putting a show at the resort in DDD or somewhere on property. WDW has one TDL has one, where is ours?
I love Cirque Du Soleil and if one day it happens I would definitely go all the time.
    What does everyone else think?

I like that idea. I think it would be a neat show to see.

"Ours" will be at the Kodak Theatre with it's big price tag being paid by someone other than Disney. I'd personally prefer to keep those Disney budget dollars focused on new attractions and improvements.

Cirque du Soleil comes to the heart of hollywood with a show about the history of the movies.

    Los Angeles, November 19, 2007

Cirque du Soleil and CIM GROUP announced today that Cirque du Soleil will open a major new show at Kodak Theatre, home of the Academy Awards®, in 2011.

The $100 million production is the centerpiece of a 10-year agreement between the two companies. A cast of 75 performing artists will present the show in the 3,400-seat theatre 368 times a year, and while few details about the production's content are available now, Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté announced that it would focus on Hollywood's place in the history of cinema.

Yes, that someone else is, in part, the good tax payers of Los Angeles

Don't get me wrong, I love Cirque, have seen all of their productions in Vegas, I just don't agree with them using tax payer dollars for this.

Re: Cirque Du Soleil at the Disneyland Resort?

You know.. Cirque Du Soleil in the beginning was really really cool. Then it branched out into Vegas shows like O and Mystere, and that was pretty cool as well. Then they started heavily franchising out the name with shows like Love and Viva Elvis and that wasn't so cool. Nowadays Cirque Du Soleil isn't as appealing to me anymore because they've branched too far out of the original scope of their entertainment that they're just kind of a novelty company to me now. So I would have to say, no I wouldn't want to see the Cirque Du Soleil name associated with Disney. I'm sure that Disney could aquire the rights to any performing arts group, that hasn't been franchised to CDS yet, to do an exclusive show for Disney instead.

I'm not a big Cirque fan, but I've seen Zed in Japan & loved it, saw Ka & Believe in Vegas and thought they were just ok & saw La Nouba in Florida and absolutely hated it.

I don't think it would be a great idea of putting that crap in Disneyland- I don't think there is enough of a demand for the locals to have a permanent show there for it to be worthwhile.

But that's just me- They do a great job with the different acrobatics- but I can't stand the stupid attempts at comedy & clowning they do- to me, it detracts from the show.

In the defense of the CDS organization, it's almost always French humor, either you get it or you don't.

But I agree with you.. the sight of Mickey Mouse doing a goofy looking tightrope act to grab a piece of cheese being dangled by a snickering guy in a waxy mustache dressed as a tourist doesn't really appeal to me either.

I still think the idea is adventurous and great
I mean WDW gets so much stuff just becuase they are larger than us and once the DCA improvements have gone through and everything after all of that, idk, may it would be ok for disney to waste a bit of cash?

Thank you, everybody here, for bringing some of the magic home to my computer and letting me have some fun.

    Nice endorsement.

BTW - LOVE is a spectacular experience, I've been fortunate enough to have seen it three times and would go again tomorrow if I was back in LV.
And do I agree with or like the idea of my tax dollars being filtered into the new Hollywood show - no. Free preview performances made available to tax payers would help lesses the sting though...

Re: Cirque Du Soleil at the Disneyland Resort?

I remember a time not so long ago (say about 25 years) when Cirque du Soleil refused to attach themselves to Vegas or Disney. They had ONE 'small' (1,500 seat) tent, and would camp out next to the Santa Monica pier for months on end, then scoot up to the Mission District in San Fransisco, then to Balboa Park in San Diego, Then South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, then wrap up the year with another three month stay in Santa Monica.... ah those were the days.

I've always liked this idea. I saw Kooza in San Francisco and thought it was really awesome, so I'd definitely take the time to go see a Cirque show in DTD were they to put one there.

I agree. DTD Disney desperately needs a venue like that. I think they should put it in that lot that's behind/between House of Blues and Tortilla Joes.

Re: Cirque Du Soleil at the Disneyland Resort?

Ugh. With the trillion Cirque shows in Vegas (not SoCal, granted, but commonly visited by SoCal locals), and the new one coming to LA, I'm Cirqued out. There shows are always fantastic the first time you see them, but as you see more of them, it seems they are the same thing over and over again... I would not see them at DTD.
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?
