AP -- Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has announced a shocking decision. Starting as soon as next month, Disney Parks will begin the move towards renaming the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California as "Walt Disney World Jr."
Thomas O. Staggs, current chairman of the Disney theme park division, explains, "During the last year we have done polls that show that the majority of tourists outside of California are not aware of the difference between Disney World and Disneyland." Staggs believes that the transition will be seamless and eventually the public will get used to the phrasing. A similar operation was performed when the Disney/MGM Studios park in the Walt Disney World Resort was retitled Disney's Hollywood Studios due to Disney losing the license to use the MGM moniker.
However, George Kalogridis, current president of the Disneyland Resort, has a differing opinion. "It really annoys me when some refer to Disneyland as Disney World," Kalogridis commented. "The fact that we're being forced to change our resort title to a noticeably more inferior label not only demeans our property, but significantly damages the Disney Parks brand as a whole. I think the only thing that agitates me more is when Disney message boards fill up with fake news articles on April Fool's Day."
Insiders say that despite Kalogridis' objection, the re-branding will be launching as soon as possible.
