I think that was the same New Years that I attended, It was such a bummer. It is always a bummer when the fireworks are cancelled, I hate hearing "Ladies and Gentlemen due to high winds" But theres nothing you can do about it. There will always be another one.

Degree of upsettedness is likely directly proportional to the amount of time waiting.
I think the simple reason of, "They're cancelled because the ashes, some of which are hot, might fall on the crowd," is good enough to stop any complaints.
And, don't sit and wait for fireworks too long.

The winds are bad right now, but I imagine at higher elevations they will continue to be bad.

I agree with both sides. If you are a guest that only gets to go like once every few years or more and you've never seen it, I would be really mad. But I also agree with Disney. If there are high winds or stuff, for the safety of the guests, I would cancel it too.

To be honest sometimes I laugh when they are cancelled while i'm working! I laugh at how people do not understand that their safety is on the line when it comes to high winds! Lol

    I laugh sometimes too.

At the same time though, i'm just dissapointed. But not for the same reason. Reason being, the lines for rides won't get emptied quicker. I noticed that a lot leave if pyro goes off. But not a lot leave if it gets canned.

Disney does not cancel the shows for fun, they get cancelled for safety reasons.

Folks should just deal with it.

There are much worse things in life to worry about...

Re: Fireworks Shows Cancelled- Guest reactions

We were there in Oct 2007 for our Honeymoon. We had purchased the premium seating for Fantasmic. The winds had been bad all day. When we went to check in the CM told us there would be a good chance the show would be cancelled. As darkness fell the wind doubled in strength. Still a ton of people were camped out for the show. The winds were so strong that you could barely stand.

We couldnt believe all the complaining from the people in the reserved seating area. We had soda and fresh baked Disney goodies in a really cool little box. I'm sure they could have told us the show is definately not going to happen and sent us on our way, but they didnt. The poor CM in charge kept apologizing to the family behind us they were furious. Yes, we paid extra for those seats, but its not like they could change the weather. They did refund our money so no real loss other than the experience. We figured maybe we will try again for an anniversary.

The sad part is when we got back to the hotel we found out it was not just dust that started blowing around but ash. A major fire had started in the hills around Anaheim. People were losing there homes, well some crazy tourist was complaining about not getting to see Fantasmic or the fireworks. It really made the rest of our trip very humbling. Our hotel neighbor the last 2 nights was actually an evacuated homeowner.

In the end, we ended up seeing the fireworks one night of our stay from BTMR. I must going up the lift hill into the bursts was one of the most amazing things. With the sad glow from all the ash in the air it was spectacular. I only wish I had my camera. Sorry about the long rant but I just really cant understand people sometimes....

Thats sad. And I know that Fan! can get cancelled by winds to if the winds from the ground level are bad too.

Around the time you were there, that was during the Santa Ana Wind Period. And fires happen during those winds. Really bad and can affect DLR too in terms of ash being blown and such.

This may come off as mean but when that announcement comes on and says they are cancelled and the 8 trillion people that are sardine canned in around the hub all go "boo" in unison, it is pretty funny.

It's comedy for some, but it's sadness and anger for the rest.

That's what I said too. But I just heard them going off so I turned on the RDCT soundtrack! Must be really busy tonight.
