    So...whose is it, really?

One of the most widespread pieces of misinformation that is perpetuated by the Disney folks is that the herald affixed above the portcullis of Sleeping Beauty Castle is actually the Disney family crest:

However, the actual Disney family herald appears to be this design:

So...can anyone tell us whose family crest is the one portrayed on Sleeping Beauty Castle?

Maybe it's one they just made up as Aurora's.....or perhaps, Prince Philip's family crest?

It does have the lion on top and the frillies on the sides....so, maybe the Disney crest was the inspiration?

    Re: So...whose is it, really?

Maybe it was made to be the Mouse Family crest? But that's really interesting. It looks almost identical to the Disney one except the middle with the three lions. Maybe the Disney one was combined with another one, or just served as inspiration for an entirely made up crest. I thought maybe the Disney family crest was combined with the Bounds one, as Bounds is Lillian's maiden name, but it looks like this is the Bounds crest:

Looks like we have a winner! Nice researching, Rev.

Googling "family crest lionheart" does bring up many images of the three stacked lions.

hmmm...it has the helmet of the Bounds crest.... the lion and frillies from the DIsney crest....maybe it's a culmination of the two families? What was Roy's wife's crest? Could her's be the shield with the three lions?

Wonder if we should start a movement to re-make the one on the castle into the Disney version?

Oh, yeah, I didn't notice the helmet, but it looks exactly like the Bounds crest helmet.

This is the Francis family crest(Roy's wife was Edna Francis):

The helmets and the curlicues around the shield are just decoration. It's the images inside the shield that defines the family.

Now the question is.....did the Imaginears take those bits and pieces from the crests intentionally.....or is it purely coincidence?

Stichy, those designs outside the shield just make it look cooler. Sort of like painting flames on the side of your car.

It's the three stacked lions on the Castle shield that indicate it to be the crest of King Richard the Lionheart. Or the three fleur de lies that symbolize the Disney family.
