Wow, the rumor is seeming all the more real. But we haven't heard anything from the inside.

Re: Do the Matterhorn Bobsleds go faster than they used to?

The Matterhorn just recently came back from a refurb, at the least I would say that all the wheels were re-greased and the track was probably re-aligned. This alone makes a huge difference in the performance of the bobsleds.

The ride goes 17mph ... maybe sometimes it will get up to 20mph. It's not going super fast anytime.

Didn't realize it was even that fast in actual mph. Thanks.

Hope this makes sense... does anyone know what is the
perceived speed supposed to be? How fast do people
*think* they are going? Say, as designed by the makers.
    Is there a speed?

I find that there are times when it goes pretty darn fast and other times where it goes a lot slower. I've noticed that during the day it'll be kinda slow but for whatever reason it sometimes seems to go faster when you ride it at night. The ride isn't as fun when it moves slower, I like it when it's nice and fast.

Roller Coasters will run faster at night be cause the tracks have been warmed up all day from the cars rolling on them. They will often be slower in the morning because the tracks are cool.

Speed is irrelevant. It's the Acceleration (change in velocity, which is speed and direction) that you feel.
The acceleration you feel on the Matterhorn is mostly the tiny ups and downs (directional change) of the track, which over the past 50 years, has settled wherever gravity lets it.

Bobsled do go fast after a Rehab the grease is new.

Also is know that first ride on the Matterhorn is slower that after Noon run.
More time down the bobsled track the wheels turn easy.

My sister just showed me a image she just recieved on her phone. Someone was at the matterhorn when they took off the cover off that mystery bobsled and it is the three single seater that was shown in the You tube video. It just had a different two-tone paint scheme on it.

If the train is light, the ride is extremely jerky even if it doesn't go faster. It definitely adds to the thrill. More weight smooths the ride out a bit but you pick up more speed.
