Hopefully the gold feathers are faded to white. Because Red-Black-White were the colors of NAZI Germany.

    Then came Check Point Charlie.

Actually, I pulled those colors from the Tiki Room Wiki, which I checked last night before I started this string. I wanted to verify the countries of the birds, and they listed the bird colors as well.

If I were to described them, I'd say Michael's feathers are predominately green (I actually can't remember seeing any white), and Fritz's feathers are predominately red and black (again, I didn't see any white). All the hosts/birds have touches of aqua blue and yellow feathers around their heads but their bodies are almost entirely their country colors.

I just thought it was cool attention to detail on the Imagineers' parts, which is one of the reasons I love the Disney parks. Everything is thought through in such detail. I think the reason I never noticed it before is that it's subtle. They didn't drape a country flag over the birds body. It's more of a suggestion of a color theme.

The reason I noticed it last night was because I was sitting under Pierre and thought, "I've never seen a red, white and blue bird in real life. What an interesting choice." Then it dawn on me... "DUH! He's a French bird in red, white and blue."

I think I'm an outlier, because I noticed this the first time I watched the show 3 years ago. But when I was little, my mother used to call me "eagle eyes" because I would see and notice and remember teeny tiny details about everything. I think it is most noticeable on Jose and then I connected the dots on the rest. Yay Enchanted Tiki Room discussion!!!!

NDNation I do love your observation and I can wait to look at the Tiki Room with new eyes when I am at the park later this month.

    Join the club... :-)

It took me over 16 years.

I didn't notice this at all when I was a kid.

But I did notice once I went in with my child as a parent.

I'm really surpised at how many DIDN'T notice that. I thought that was something that was overly obvious... but I called my mom and asked her if she noticed this. She hadn't. Maybe it's my artistic mind set that I notice colors.

i'm happy you all discovered something new to enjoy

The colors of the German flag are NOW black-red-gold, but before the end of WWII the colors were black-white-red even under the Kaiser and not just during the Nazi era.

Hey that's cool! I'd never noticed that. Nice observation.

On a related note, does anyone know if all the things in the Tiki Room are original? Like, are the birds all the exact same as when it opened or do they sometimes replace the feathers or beaks on the birds? Have some of the totem pole guys always have eyes that don't quite match or is that something that's happened with age?

I feel like going to the Tiki Room now and enjoying a whip float.

I believe that is the way they were designed. Gives them a slightly cartoonish look.

I probably never noticed because I was clueless about the other countries' flag colors! France is the only one I know without looking at a reference.

Well, we definitely need pictures for these.

Oh, keep in mind, when the Tiki Room was completely refurbish around it's 40th anniversary, all the birds got refurbished too. And when they did that, feathers were NOT the only material used over their bodies. Other material was also used and cut to make it look similar to natural feathers.

I had thought this might be the case, but I honestly was not familar enough with the flags of the world to know for sure. Very neat observation. I love the Tiki room and the fact that you looked on the "Tiki Wiki" made me laugh!

Hmm, I didn't notice that either. But then again, I don't even know those countries colors, lol.
