Those are both fantastic, HBG2.....thank you so much! I love the old Snow White witch image in particular....I like the ride as is now, but reading about it in the old days, and at Florida when first opened: alas, if only some things didn't change in tone. And great post re: the hatbox as well. Seems elementary, doesn't it, but I never considered that..I always sort of viewed him carrying it like a undead, sinister traveling salesman from beyond the grave...

Re: The Long-Forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect Thread 7: Further Realms of Fright

As you know, the HM 40th Anny extravaganza didn't impress me much...

    Steeeerike One!

And I thought the pin artwork in particular was not only cheesy but incoherent...

    Steeeerike Two!

And besides, I'm not into pins anyway...

    Steeeerike Three! Yer OUT!

But one of the pin artists, Ron Cohee, has a portfolio blog, featuring a lot of his HM-related artwork, including a whole slew of pins from last year, and I have to admit that he is an excellent draughtsman, and some of the pin art looks much better when it is allowed to stand on its own in a larger format. Y'all can check out his HM stuff here. I give him points for (1) really doing his homework, as his attic scenes include trivial details that are really there, and for (2) drawing a smokin' hot Constance.

Wow, thanks a ton for sharing those images and blog, HBG! I love the slightly cartoony style and depictions of the characters. I've seen them all the time around in the WDW HM merch so I'm really happy to find them elsewhere.

Speaking of WDW, I just returned from the parks and managed to get some prints of the Marc Davis versions of Miss April and the Panther Woman. I'm not sure if anybody has seen these before, as I've only seen tiny versions of them, but here are much larger and more detailed scans of the prints.

Very nice! Did you get the "after" picture for the Panther Lady as well?

I'm trying to, but unforunately my scanner keeps making the picture blurry. I will keep trying to though

Coincidentally, speaking of Constance, she always reminded me of one of my favorite Broadway songs called "To Keep My Love Alive." It's from a Rodger and Hart musical entitled "A Connecticut Yankee" in which Morgan LaFey sings about her many marriages.

    "I've been married and married,
    And often I sighed.
    I'm never a bridesmaid,
    I'm always the bride.

    I never divorced them,
    I hadn't the heart.
    Yet remember these sweet words:
    Til death do us part.

    I married many men, a ton of them;
Because I was untrue to none of them.
Because I bumped off every one of them,
    To keep my love alive.

Sir Paul was frail, he looked a wreck to me.
At night he was a horse's neck to me.
    So I performed an appendectomy,
    To keep my love alive.

    Sir Thomas had insomnia,
    He couldn't sleep at night.
    I bought a little arsenic;
    He's sleeping now, all right.

Sir Philip played the harp, I cussed the thing.
I crowned him with his harp to bust the thing.
Now he plays where harps are just the thing.
    To keep my love alive.

I thought Sir George had possibilities,
But his flirtations made me ill at ease.
And when I'm ill at ease, I kill at ease.
    To keep my love alive.

Sir Charles came from a sanitorium,
And yelled for drinks in my emporium.
I mixed one drink; he's in memorium.
    To keep my love alive.

Sir Francis was a singing bird,
    A nightingale, that's why,
I tossed him off my balcony,
To see if he could fly.

    Sir Athelstane indulged in fratricide.
He killed his dad and that was patricide.
One night I stabbed him by my mattress side.
    To keep my love alive.
    To keep my love alive!"

There were also additional lyrics and husbands in the original production of the show:

"I caught Sir James with his protectoress,
The rector's wife, I mean the rectoress.
His heart stood still, angina pectoris.
    To keep my love alive.

Sir Frank brought ladies to my palaces
I poured a mickey in their chalices.
    While paralyzed they got paralysis.
    To keep my love alive.

    Sir Alfred worshipped falconry,
He used to hunt at will.
    I sent him on a hunting trip;
    They're hunting for him still.

    Sir Peter had an incongruity,
    Collecting girls with promiscuity.
    Now I'm collecting his annuity,
    To keep my love alive.

    Sir Ethelburg would use profanity,
His language drove me near insanity.
So once again I served humanity,
    To keep my love alive.

Sir Curtis made me cook each dish he ate,
And everything his heart would wish he ate.
Until I fiddled with a fish he ate.
    To keep my love alive.

    Sir Marmaduke was awfully tall,
    He didn't fit in bed.
    I solved that problem easily,
    I just removed his head.

Sir Marc adored me with formality.
He called a kiss a immorality.
And so I gave him immortality,
    To keep my love alive.
    To keep my love alive!"

Here's the second half of the panther woman portrait. Unfortunately it's not as in good quality as my scanner has a hard time picking up black colors, but I think it came out fairly well.

Heehee, Panther Lady turns into a real kitty. That's such an obvious thing for me to say, but still! You say stupid things when you're near a kitty! (Proof here.)

TGL, those scans are GREAT. I had nothing quite that good for the April-December series, and I didn't have Davis's cat lady in my files at all. You're also right about those song lyrics. Very Constance-ish.

I listen to Sirus Broadway and they play the full version quite often. I absolutely LOVE this song! Thanks for posting the lyrics!!!

Just got back from the HM tribute art show at Halloween Town in Burbank.
    http://store.halloweentownstore.com/...aunted_mansion
A lot of cool stuff there. I think my favorite was the portrait of the Hanged Man (Ghost Host).

This was the first time I'd been around so many HM fans. It was kinda surreal walking into the store and hearing the 30th anniversary album playing over the speakers.

Nearly everyone there was dressed in black. I felt a little out of place -- like I had infiltrated the goth hive.

I don't have any photos, sorry.

    NEWS FLASH

Reportedly, Disneyland's Haunted Mansion now has the internal-projection Madame Leota, like Orlando. It's also reported that the suspension cables look like they may be thinner than before, making them less visible.

I'll be eager to see photos.

Hey, this means I'll get to see a new, improved Mdm L later this month. The bad news, of course, is precisely that she's no longer on the table. Her recent and lengthy stay there refreshed memories and reinforced, for some, their belief that the table-top Mdm L was superior. I'm in that camp, but not bitterly so. Anyway, if fly she must, then do it well, sez I.

Interesting! I'll be curious to see that internal projection approach. As for the floating...yeah, I lean more in your direction, but I'm kind of okay with the scene either way. The floating seems unnecessary, and as you've pointed out, it does weaken the whole "where's that voice coming from?" reveal because you're already focused on the crystal ball doing something out of the ordinary. But it's also a cool effect, particularly when the wires aren't visible, so I'm good either way.
