I'd second that!

HBG2- sorry that happened. I hope you can find another outlet to get your piece published.
Re: The Long-Forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect Thread 7: Further Realms of Fright
That is very lame indeed, Dan, about your thesis/work....here's hoping the editor actually takes a solid look at that one inaccurate review in due time. Sorry to hear it, as I know you've invested a lot of time/effort into it.

Perhaps people were being modest, but I'd say go back and read the previous 6 interations of this thread! Tons of knowledge and discussion to read. Which I must now do. Been gone since Thread... 4? Glad to be back.
And HBG2, that is incredibly lame! I wish people knew how to get over themselves and be objective about other peoples ideas!

HBG2: Sorry about the rejection. Hope another outlet shows itself to you!

Thanks, guys. I'm not really discouraged. It'll find a home eventually.
As for the monster Thread as a source of information, of course that's true, but a note of caution is in order: There were lots of theories that needed correction or repudiation later in the Thread as more info became available, so you sorta hafta make your way through the whole thing before you file any of the data in a permanent corner of your brain. Of course, even some of the "permanent" stuff may call for further revision down the road.
Such is the nature of research. When new photos of the attic bride back in 1975 surfaced, I had to go back and virtually rewrite some of the posts at my blog because some of the "facts" were wrong.
Re: The Long-Forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect Thread 7: Further Realms of Fright
For me the mansion has always been about mystery. All the doors, windows; as a kid I would always wonder "where do they go?" And all my dreams about it have me walking through and exploring. That's one of the reasons I hate any attempt at added narrative--it takes away from the mystery a bit...
HBG2, we are all sharing your pain (especially since we all would have been sharing your joy and bragging about you if this hadn't happened!).
Re: The Long-Forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect Thread 7: Further Realms of Fright
Again, thanks. I take it as yet another reminder that there isn't any human group endeavor that is free of this sort of childish spite. Not politics, not the military, not the church, not academia, not the sciences, not the arts. You can't let it get to you. You walk around it. People are people.

Sounds like a great application for a wiki to consolidate the current 'view' of things. It would also provide you historical tracking of evolutions, and navigation of the information.
Consider starting a wiki at a place like wikia.com - it will make it easily locatable on the internet and allow you consolidate your running concepts in their latest form all in one place. There is no need to worry about competition between your blog and the wiki.. the blog is the running newsfeed of concepts and ideas... where the wiki is your 'database' of saved concepts, visuals, etc. You already have the image storage, just need a front-end to consolidate and make browsable
Re: The Long-Forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect Thread 7: Further Realms of Fright
I think that is a great idea - consolidating all of the Long-forgotten threads into one easily searchable wiki database.
HBG2, if you ever have any desire to do something like that, maybe we can help pitch in by adding entries, hotlinks, etc. It would be awesome to have, say, all of the concept art for the stretching room in one place (for example).
Re: The Long-Forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect Thread 7: Further Realms of Fright
HB2, It really sucks what happened to you (They must have liked PLQ:p)
A Haunted Mansion Wikki would be cool but I forsee nutjobs editing the facts for what they think is true (MG=GH).
.....
There were several sets of Mansion photos recently MG13 and GH?. I really enjoyed seeing them. I'm following this thread as much as I can but by the time I can respond things have moved on. I'm also mentally exhausted most of the time so putting coherent sentences together is a chore.
Like HBG2, I consider you threadsters my friends. I'm happy to report that my wife has finished 2 rounds of chemo for Lymphoma and the CAT scan showed that the nodes were all gone (which is not to say the cancer is gone though). Soon they will be harvesting her stem-cells for transplants.
......
For me, I love the Mansions because they represent my family trips. I'd always loved ghosts and creepy things and the mansion was awe inspiring. I loved the Randotti skulls and plaques sold in Leota's cart or the magic shop. I also had the Lakeside boardgame which I played all the time. Grim Grinning Ghosts and the foyer music were also constantly playing in my head. I had and lost the record book and loved the art work (although it is possible I didn't have the book until I was a teen. Doombuggies.com allowed me to learn more about it and the other crafters on it inspired me to start making my own HM crafts .
Re: The Long-Forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect Thread 7: Further Realms of Fright
There are already a couple of Haunted Mansion wiki pages out there:
The Haunted Mansion - Disney Wiki
Haunted Masnion Wiki

Wikis are easily moderated.. so that is not an issue.
In fact they must be closely moderated because spammers love wikis now too.. :(

Like I said before, I would be willing to help if someone decided to go ahead with this idea. Anybody with me? :P
