    Meaningless synchronicity of the day:

On the left is the actual layout of a seance held in 1908. On the right, the HM of course. Remember that originally, Mdm L was going to be projected from inside the "spirit cabinet" behind her, so we're going to cheat and put her back with her projector.

I shot this video circa 2004 at the Magic Kingdom's Haunted Mansion - very, very dark though with a decent look at Beating Heart, and it features the original shrieking heads rather than the "I doooooo" iteration that marked them more formally as being wedding-related.

Last week I was stopped in the attic and was able to get a few relatively clear shots:

Why can't they leave things alone? I hate the new monkey bride. The old monkey bride was MUCH scarier.

    Thanks
That seems creepier than the new attic

Imagineering Disney (@imagineeringdis) on Twitter posted this pic. I am shocked at how large the singing busts are!

Hah. I like it. I didn't realize how detailed their "blank" faces are too. Much moreso than Leota.

Makes some sense as the expressions filmed are also very 'broad' acting wise - they have to be viewed in the dark, while in motion, from a changing perspective, so safer to go big so everything for sure visually reads I think would be the reason.

I saw an interview with Thurl Ravencroft (sp) where he was talking about mugging for the camera while singing his part. They told him to 'go big' with the mugging and expressions.

Actually, the wallpaper fragment could be authentic (the design is right), but if so, it is definitely not from Anaheim. The DL HM paper has a mottled periwinkle background. I don't think the other HM's have that mottling of light and dark color. If this fragment is genuine, it's from WDW or Tokyo or Paris, and the yellowish eye should glow in the dark (or glow under black light). The other reason it's not from Anaheim is that the paper there has never been replaced. It's still using the 1969 original paper.

Okay, I too am *really* surprised to see the actual size of these things! I could swear the one of Thurl that was shown being carried by Yale Gracey on the WWOC Osmonds episode was somewhat oversized - but never anything of those dimensions! And while I'm at it, there's another bust-related note I've also always wondered about. Which of the four others is the one meant to be singing in the lower register in a monotone fashion (although nowhere as low as what Thurl provides) that you can hear at least well enough in the source audio track? My personal guess is it's the guy in the hat ... he always appears completely unemotional compared to the others...

Wow, nine years seems like such a short time ago for such a radical transformation to have happened, when you consider how gradual other changes in the attic were in the previous thirty or so!
