Rivers of America Thread - Breakdown of River Scenes!!!

Hello there MiceChatters, OC Register has posted a break down of the new river scenes along with what exactly Disney did when they drained the Rivers of America. I will warn you that many spoilers can be found in the article!!!

    SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!!!

Behind-the-scenes look at Disneyland’s new river - Around Disney : The Orange County Register

    Incredible illustration provided by OCRegister.com

When the riverboat comes back as early as May 21, a guide will read a new speech that will explain at the beginning of the ride that guests will explore the four rivers on the journey.

New scenes include: deers drinking from a creek, Indian braves on Tom Sawyer Island, raccoons spied by a skunk, mountain lions hiding in the grass and an osprey on top of the winch beam close to the riverboat dock. Some old animals, including a group of moose, were repositioned in new scenes.
Disney attraction creators, called Imagineers, consulted original sketches from Walt Disney collaborators Marc Davis and Sam McKim for the river to come up with new ideas. Some scenes, including the raccoons, were from those old plans.

The previously burning cabin got a new theme: Mike Fink, Davy Crockett’s rival and later friend, is the new resident. His keel boat, the Gullywhumper from the previous Disneyland ride, was placed in front of the cabin. Visitors will hear Crockett and Fink arguing from the boats.

“We had the Gullywhumper available, and we had the story,” Irvine said. “We kind of like to go back to our history.”
I thought we could also use this thread to post any new pictures that you guys can get from the river's opening as well as a way to update MiceChatters with one single thread rather than multiple little threads.

D23's website has posted this as well:

    05.05.10 — Running Rivers
Rivers of America (Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes, Columbia Sailing Ship and Rafts to Pirates' Lair on Tom Sawyer Island) will reopen tomorrow.
This is all very exciting and I can't wait to take the Columbia on a whirl through the new Rivers of America!!!

Agreed. They didn't have to do any of this. Nice new touches here and there to strengthen the overall theme. Bravo WDI. It may not be everything they set out to do, but at least it's something. I'm also interested in that viewing area at the pump house. My Nikon and I will be headed over there as soon as it opens.

Mark Twain additions from the article...

A new hurricane deck and wheel house roof were added, as well as new flooring in the generator room.
    Hurricane deck? What is this?

I didn't think Disney was going to go through with it when Al Lutz first reported about it back in February...

The plan now also includes adding some real animals in amongst the new animatronics, with the Indian Village at the big bend in the river planned to get a small themed paddock next to the teepees with a few live Pintos allowed to graze there and watch the tourists go by on the passing canoes and boats. -Al Lutz Article 2/23/09
It looks to me as if they've actually done it though! It's going to awesome seeing these Pintos grow up right in front of the river, not to mention the "see it again and again" factor they'll gain from this. TOO COOL!!! Thank you WDI!!!

What is the pump house public viewing area? viewing of what?

In all my years going to DL I don't think I have ever done any of the boat rides and it has been years since I have been to the island. Perhaps it is time to take a trip over there.

You have to give the OC Register points for trying. Proof that not too many of them actually make it over to the park on a regular basis.

The Mark Twain is going the other way now! Coo!!

The new "Red Rock", as boring as it sounds to most, is VERY intriguing to me since it's part of old NWRR (minus the last train ever ) and I'm a sucker for those southwestern rock styles.

I'm thinking that too about the rock. At least that rock will indicate that we are entering the Rio Grande Section of the ROA.
